Flat spots - Muzzychris - 05-04-14

After doing my first ever service on a bike including new air filter, oil filter oil change and spark plugs the bike has now developed flat spots which can be quite dangerous if overtaking etc and seem to happen randomly.
I know servicing is very simple and only a fool could mess this up but any advice lol, many thanks!

Check the fuel line hasnt been pinched or kinked then try it with the old airfilter some of the pattern filters dont fit as perfectly

Re: Flat spots - darrsi - 05-04-14

Don't s'pose you bought a Hi-Flo air filter perchance?

Re: Flat spots - Muzzychris - 05-04-14

no but a hi-flo oil filter lol, im going to take the airfilter out now and go for a run and see what happens then ill post back, thanks again!

Re: Flat spots - darrsi - 05-04-14

Reason i ask is i had running issues when i installed an ill fitting Hi-Flo cheapo air filter, bike ran like it was being strangled.
Prompted me to get a K&N which was like the bike had just devoured a whole packet of Fisherman's Friends.  Smile

Hi guys, took filter out and went on short run, bike ran absolutely perfect(apart from when it ran out of fuel due to not turning fuel tap back on :o ) so im guessing crappy air filter as you suggested!

Re: Flat spots - Punkstig - 05-04-14

Ebay for K&N, only a couple quid more than a yam air filter!

Lack of constant fuel is also a cause of flat spots!!!

Try again first, if it's still the same order a K&N and be done with it.

Order a fuel filter as well if you've never changed it before, only a few quid.  Wink

Ive give the old one a good clean stuck it back in and running lovely until my K&N arrives!, thanks again for your help everyone, priceless!

Re: Flat spots - His Dudeness - 05-04-14

What air filter did you buy the first time?

Re: Flat spots - Muzzychris - 05-04-14

I got it in a unmarked box, no branding on it sort of as a job lot of someone i knew! no marking on the filter either, the only difference i can see is the old one is like mesh, the new one was like like a alloy with circle holes in it.

Re: Flat spots - Timbollew - 08-04-14

I was thinking of getting a hiflo for mine, glad I've read this. K&N it will be.

Re: Flat spots - Muzzychris - 08-04-14

Im still wondering if i kinked a pipe i am going to try again when i can be bothered with it because the loss was huge, but the hiflo does look like it would restrict over my standard one.
