Low slide - just a rant - Slaninar - 23-03-14

Yesterday - perfect weather, roads, company. Nice day in the country with some cycling gang. On the way back... should have been more rested and had NONE beers. Mate started braking on a slow conrer exit, when he was already past the apex. I came in too close to fast. Was supposed to just gas it, but he was getting closer and closer. Put the bike straight, started braking, then slid into the ditch past the road. Better than hitting him. All my fault - should have kept more distance.

Not a scratch on me, but fazer is crashed. Will see the damage today. Towed it home. Idiot. :rolleyes

ive noticed even on dry days the roads are still slippy........or is it just me :rolleyes ....nothing major,just the back stepping out a bit,parphps its still a bit damp just below the surface still.

Yep, went out yesterday, and sacked it when the heavens opened. Had a few Wheelspin moments on what seemed like dry tarmac, and the back end squirming around on the bends. It can be deceptive sometimes.

There's lots of fine gravel on the centres of the roads, i passed on going out yesterday also as i could see the roads were greasy & there isnt the temperature for the tyres & my rear is low on tread....ok i felt a bit defeated....but i could smell trouble.
Bad luck Slaninar....group riding got the better of you this time though, easy mistake.glad you're ok.

There seems to be a lot of dust on the roads maybe salt or soil on the back roads the rain will help wash it off but it takes a good downpour.

I went out today and the roads were mostly dry but soooo much salt had the bike squirming about.
Sad to hear of your OFF, i hope it's easy and cheap to repair. Good luck

Still a lot of detritus around washed out by all the recent flooding around here - not summer hooning time yet! Still, we've had some nice sunny days already, and still only March.
Bad luck Slani, glad you're ok. Had a chance to assess the damage to the bike yet?

I read somewhere that molasses was going to be trialled in the rock salt/ grit mix, as a way of preventing it from being washed away so easily,

oh great why not add to the humiliation-- slide off land in bushes squash some pigeons and end up tarred and feathered

There is a chemical already added to slow down the wash off effect. Apparently its more corrosive than salt.

Straightened front fairing and headlight frame. It was bent. Took some torch light heating and then twisting with a lever.

Left fork was a bit bent. Loosened the bolts holding it and rotated it a bit. It is now OK - front axle stays in line. Hope this won't effect handling. The bend is not visible.

Left crash pad was a bit bent - straightened it back. No cracking showed.

Left to try straightening left footpeg holder (the part welded to the frame) and side fairing holders.

Fairing was left to be welded as well (that will cost around 10 euros).

Hopefully the footpeg will be mended, so I will get away with minimum repair cost (and time).

All done. Fixed. Everything was bent back in shape - no need for replacement parts.

Gluing (plastic welding) the fairing cost me 10 euros.

A mate mechanic let me use his shed, straightened the fairing mounting (that was difficult, the front mount that bolts to the frame, that holds the light also).

He also offered to paint my fairing.

That cost me 150 euros - a rip off IMO. But told me the price afterwards. Before when I asked the price, he said it won't cost much, unless some new parts need to be bought.

However, the bike is up and running.

Left fork is a bit bent. The bike goes a bit to the left when I let the bars go. Mechaic turned it some 90 degrees sideways, loosened the bolts holding forks, yanked them a bit, twisted, and tightened it back. After that, the bike just slightly turns to the left when I let the bars go - leaning just a bit to right is enough to compensate. Mechanic said it won't be a problem. I don't notice any change when holding the bars and riding as I usually do.

Mate forget your bike - you want to sort out that laminate flooring in your living room first
