Helmet - Glesgatrucker - 17-03-14

Going to buy a new lid this weekend and I was wondering what other folk use ? Looking for something reasonably priced and obviously safe ? Full face large or xl size ?

Re: Helmet - mickvp - 17-03-14

I've got a nexx xr2 carbon. Only had it a month or so, but it's excellent. The weight is so light, and the peripheral vision is colossal.

The double d rings get on my tits though. I posted a short review of it here:

I suppose it depends what you class as cheap?

Thanks for that info, I use a shoei just now and a few other that I've bought a spares ? But I just can't get something that feels right ? If you know what I mean !!

Re: Helmet - mickvp - 17-03-14

I do mate, I had a shoei and two nolans before the nexx, but the big viewpoint of the nexx has sold it for me. It fits very well and it comfy for me too, which is the hard bit!

Re: Helmet - Dead Eye - 18-03-14

I will be looking for a helmet later this year as well... not looking forward to that expense Sad

No real idea where to start... might spend a Saturday or Sunday in Fowlers...

Re: Helmet - fazersharp - 18-03-14

Yep Im up for  anew lid also, was in the old hein gerick - now J&s or whatever and tried on a shoei, agv, shark, somthing else and the best fit for me was the hjc is-17 might even start my own thread about that one and if I even need to replace my lid as its a few years old now

Re: Helmet - kawasutra - 19-03-14

I started with a Shark. Hated it!

Then got an Arai Quantum and have stuck with that since. One of the nice things is on a lot of Arais you can change the cheek cushions to a larger or smaller size.

This may help you find that elusive perfect fit.

I just wish smoked/coloured screens were cheaper for Arais!

I have a spare Shoei and also an AGV, but never use them myself as my Arai trumps both for fit!

Re: Helmet - Mattsplat - 19-03-14

I use a Shoei XR1100 with a whisper strip attached to make it quieter.

Not a bad helmet, there is better out there but you can do a lot worse!

Re: Helmet - Frosties - 19-03-14

Shoei GT air here.

But I know what a pig it is picking a lid just right for you.

Had loads of makes and finally found the one for me.........but again, everyone's different fella. You just need to spend a few hours in a shop trying them all on - make sure you try them for about 15 mins + each time which should be long enough to feel any pressure points.

Good luck

Re: Helmet - JZS 600 - 19-03-14

I got a Shoei XR1000 cheap at J&S, good fit and quiet, I like it (but then my last lid was an XR800,,,)

Re: Helmet - nsr500v4 - 19-03-14

HJC Carbon lid, special price of £145 from lids direct, soooooooooooo light and bare carbon!

Re: Helmet - demic77 - 19-03-14

I really wanted a Roof Desmo last year, went to try one on at  http://www.designerhelmets.com/ shop in Yaarkshire but it didn't suit my head at all.
They got a few lids out in different sizes for me to try, spent 2 hours trying them on and left still not 100% sure and didn't commit to anything. Slept on it and decided on a Roof Boxer V8, made sure I ordered from these guys as they'd been so helpful.

Re: Helmet - Fuzzy - 20-03-14

I've always had Shoeis until I bought a Arai Quantum. It is indeed comfortable but my next lid will be a Shoei again. The Shoei is better designed imo and one thing that still pisses me off is how inferior the Arai visors are in the rain in comparison.

Latest model for 2014 called the Shoei NXR has just been released, replaces the Xr1100

Re: Helmet - carlos - 20-03-14

I  spent about 3hrs at helmet city west bay with the very patient staff who let me try on numerous helmets. ended up with shoei xr1100. best thing to do is keep it on and wait to see of it has any pressure points

Re: Helmet - fazersharp - 20-03-14

You know when the girls are trying on shoes and they have to pop on some kind of hygiene sock/ tights. So shouldn't we be pulling a pair of tights on our head when trying on helmets !.

I've this Shark Vision R from Helmet City, great vision out of it, much better than a cheapo Ducchini I had starting off in.

This is my second Vision R actually because I managed to come off my first bike in the first Vision R the second time I wore it... and it worked so I bought another  :lol

Re: Helmet - Slaninar - 20-03-14

Lazer. The cheapest helmets that are good enough.

Re: Helmet - Neon Knight - 20-03-14

Shoei, light, not ridiculously expensive, comfy, looks good, quiet. Everything a lid should be in my book.  Smile

Reckon we should take them helmet shopping whenever they take us shoe or clothes shopping - might cure them  :lol
