rhetorical question - Why don't bikes have a fog light? It wouldn't be difficult to put the equivalent of a main beam in the rear light cluster!

My guess is, having only one light cluster it might be mistaken for a brake light too often.

not many bikers are mad enough to venture out when the visibility of myopic car drivers is compromised further.
That said, I cannot remember the last time I used fog lights. Yes we have had thick mist but not real fog for ages round here. If you read the highway code, fog lights shouldn't be used unless visibility is below 100m. To put it in a way that people may understand though they should say, if its safe to do 70mph then you don't need them as the stopping distance at 70mph is roughly 100m.

Oh please don't get me started on when people should and shouldn't use fog lights!! light mist does not = fog, rain does not = fog
Saying that, the visibility was down to fog light level today, and there were plenty driving about with no lights on at all! :eek
My friend said this morning, "enjoy the fog" I said "car's don't see us bikers anyway, so me disappering into the fog makes little difference! LOL" :b

Can't be helped sometimes, i was at work a few months ago and there was the thickest fog i'd ever seen around 4.30pm, yet when i went to go home at 5.30pm it had literally gone? Visibility had been down to about 50ft beforehand.
Hailstones can be a joy to ride in as well. :look

too many people these days have "auto-lights" on their cars and rely on the car to know when it needs the lights on rather than stress a brain cell or two and find the switch manually.
Ban them!!!! (the auto lights and the drivers :pokefun )

Yesterday morning leaving Coventry about 5am I couldn't see more than 2 lamp posts ahead, I get to Birmingham and everywhere's crystal clear. Fog is weird like that I suppose.

I can't help but think that a lot of riders would leave their fog lights on all the time to increase their visibility. You know, like those distracting flashy lights cyclists use.

When I had just passed my car test I used to drive around worrying about if my lights should be on. Sod that! These days they stay on all the time. Same on my bike.

Right, because I've never seen people doing 80mph on the M27 when it's socked in with fog and I'm doing less than 40mph in Lane 1.
Or people who think that the slighest trace of mist in the air means you've got to switch your fog lights on.
And, of course, there's nobody who thinks that fog lights are some kind of decoration on their cars which should be left on at all times because it looks cool...
Not that I'm saying that *all* drivers are clueless...
... just most of them!

The way into work was rather bottom clenching for me: I was following a van, in crap conditions (I had the fog lights on), and the van in front didn't. I looked down at the speedo, looked up, saw bright lights, assumed the dozy twat had turned his fogs on... Nope, he was braking! Only slightly, but enough to cause rather more firm middle pedal action than I would have liked.
And the amount of cars with no lights on, invisible, and those without lights at all! :eek :eek
