Front Tyre section 120 v 110 ? - scratch it - 09-03-14

Just found out my Fazer has a 120 section front tyre fitted.  It was on the bike when i got it last year,  went to replace the tyres at the weekend with Road Pilot 2, Figured as i dont know any different ,  have gone for a 120 again feels very secure,  stable and planted
Just wondered if any body else has 120 section tyres fitted , any pros and cons ?

Well, it ain't right!!

The 120 tyre is designed for a wider wheel, so when fitted to a narrower tyre, it bows out of shape, and no longer grips, responds, or rides as the manufacturer intended.

Swap it out for the correct 110/70 ZR17 tyre, and you should be pleasently surprised!  Smile

To be honest, I always ran 120's on my old sv because my race tyres were 120 front. Didn't make a jot of difference, and I had a constant supply of pairs with <200 miles

I left the wheels with the fitter who just replaced the same size that were already on existing tyre,  having ridden the bike with 120 section for 10 months i have got use to the feel . Cant really take the wheel back as i have put almost 100 miles on today nice ride down to Rye Harbour.
having mixed thoughts on this now.....

Wouldn't worry yourself in the slightest about it fella. You may notice a slightly slower turn in response compared to a 110 section - then again you may notice a quicker turn in due to extra grip. Have regularly gone up a size on most bikes for more grip and braking - the rims will take them with no issues.

Stop worrying and enjoy the weather. Nowt to worry about  :thumbup

Have fun

I had a 120 and when back to a 110 and to me it felt like the bike dipped into corners a lot quicker with the 110 but it might also have been because the 120 was worn and the 110 was new

I've heard of several forum members opting for the 120 over the 110 and there isn't a huge difference between the two sizes to cause major issues. The turn in speed is affected as mentioned above, but if you are happy with it then stick with it I guess...

Just make sure it clears the mudguard OK.
