Speedo Failed - MarkWales - 16-02-14 Hi all - I removed the clocks this morning and replaced the lamps inside with LEDs - all worked fine. Took the bike for fuel rode through a 60 zone and checked my speed was less that 60 as the road has average speed cameras. Filled up and on the return came back to the 60 zone checked the speed and had lost reading. I have searched and many seem to point to the drive in the wheel. can these fail without the wheel being removed? or isĀ it more likely to be an electrical issue? I have check the wiring and there are no signs of damage - checked the connections in the box under the tank and they are all like new. HELPĀ :'( Re: Speedo Failed - Punkstig - 16-02-14 Speedo drive is ceramic and can split/crack/fail quit easily, if you've checked the wires as you said you have then next step is to remove front wheel and check the drive Unit! Re: Speedo Failed - MarkWales - 16-02-14 Thanks Punkstig That is the plan for the next dry (ish) day Re: Speedo Failed - wickedmonkey - 17-02-14 ABout two months ago, I noticed that my speedo was going haywire -- reading zero, then jumping up to max, then flitting about in between, then zero again, etc, etc. Long story short, it returned to normal after a couple of days and I put it down to moisture somewhere in the electrics after giving it a particularly damn good wash. Could this be your issue? Re: Speedo Failed - MarkWales - 17-02-14 Thanks fingers crossed then Re: Speedo Failed - wickedmonkey - 06-03-14 How's the speedo now? Re: Speedo Failed - MarkWales - 06-03-14 not had the chance to do anything - this weekend hopefully get it sorted also noticed I have damaged the negative connector on the battery last time I removed it - maybe as simple as a poor earth? Re: Speedo Failed - dcurzon - 06-03-14 When I did the bulbs in my speedo, the speedo wouldn't register anything. I discovered that when I'd put it back together, there is a stopper at zero mph and the needle was the wrong side if the stopper, therefore couldn't actually move beyond zero mph. Easily fixed by taking the clocks apart and setting the needle the correct side of the stopper then reassembling. Is it possible you've done the same? Re: Speedo Failed - MarkWales - 06-03-14 Thanks dcurzon will have a look at this in case |
