Headlamps in the oven? - ChristoT - 09-02-14

Two questions:

One, what temperature do you need to set the oven to (or what gasmark?) to heat up the headlamp enough to get the lenses off?

Two, how much of a smell will that make? Because I like it here, and don't want to get kicked out!! :lol :lol

A low temperature should suffice (Gas Mark 2, maybe 3?)

You only want them in there for about 15 minutes I think, just enough to soften the glue, not melt the entire unit Tongue

Smell wise... shouldn't be horrific providing you don't melt anything... but if we factor in the "Christo failure quotient" then you're pretty much focced

No, you want to remove the clear plastic covers from the black plastic casing

What exactly are you trying to do? As in, why is it necessary for you to get to the internals?

Well, two reasons: one the headlamps are fogged up, and pretty dirty inside. Also, I want to revisit my angel eye bulbs with LED strip running lights - and that's an internals job.

Do what, blow up the microwave? :eek :eek :eek

I accidentlly put some butter in foil (I didn't realise it was foil, y'see) in the microwave. Sparks everywhere! I jumped 3 feet! And it ruined the butter too! :'(

Well!

Having met and talked to Deefer666 (top guy, BTW!!) today, I now have new ideas for the Fazer headlamps!

I now have 2 avenues I can explore. One is to go for angel eyes bulbs, ringed bottom and outermost sides with LEDs - my original plan. OR, I could fit the oil cooler, as the Tokyo Motor show bike has, and on the right side, fit 2 projector HIDs, one for main beam, one for high, with a virtual headlamp shape created by a ring of LED running lights, giving a frame effect.

My mate done this to his headlight and it failed the MOT.
MOT tester said that the beam wasn't right or something then HID was throwing light everywhere

I may need to mod the reflector. But I've seen other bikes with this idea used.

Third and best option, buy a pair of actual H4 projectors and fit them: Installation guide for retrofitting mini Bi-Xenon projectors in Motorcycle headlight

Vastly increased amounts of light, and because they're using an actual projector rather than a reflector, you get a very clear focused light with no scatter.
The H4 modls have a built in "curtain" at the top which cuts the top of the beam off for low beam, flick a switch and it pulls up to give you full beams!

Christo did say HID Projectors, rather than HID bulbs in the existing projectors...

Christo - i refer you to my thread in the FZS600 section. My headlamp is currently away being used as a template for a projector kit.
