Nitron - Punkstig - 05-02-14

Bit the bullet and just ordered the Nitron sport shock,
I fully intend on doing more track days this year, and the modded thou shock I fitted needs servicing!
£100 to do and in my mind it's still a substandard shock so it won't be fit for my purpose!
I've read up on the R6 shock mod and right or wrong I just don't like the idea of it being the wrong length!
Plus that's still about £250 after changing the spring, and dog bones!

No, The Nitron option isn't cheap at just under £400, but it's new, shiny, guaranteed and of course British!

Had a short conversation with the fella regards upgrading fork internals and it's something they're working on this year, my T'cat forks are cartridge internals which although better than standard fazer forks still aren't amazing, so hopefully that could be upgraded in the future!

Re: Nitron - noggythenog - 05-02-14

Interested to hear how you get on, this would be my choice.

Opened my big trap about R6 shock recently & found out that R6 shock has some following but like you i'd rather have new than get a shock that needs modding & then maybe is already passed its best and then needs rebuilding.

Are these Nitron shocks also rebuildable then?, do they offer that service from the factory?

Hehe, I closely followed yours and others comments, this isn't a dig guys, some people just don't have the same train of thoughts!

Completely rebuildable, factory is in Oxford and seem nice enough guys. I think they have a YouTube video on their production!

I also like that when you order not only do they ask your weight (obviously including bike kit)
But also, how do you ride (fast road and occasional track day/ commute etc) how often for pillion, and the shock will come pre set for pre load and damping adjustments to their research.
The shock I ordered is the basic sport so compression/rebound is a linked adjustment I had this on my Hagon for the old T'cat and it was more than adequate!
But this makes it a fit and ride, there should be little need to change the adjustments, however it is a personal feeling on the bike!

Re: Nitron - Punkstig - 05-02-14

Oh, and they're very busy atm (a good sign surely!?) so from ordering to delivery could be up to 14 days but they try to complete by 10

Cheers geezer ill take a look

All my bike has to do is start and run this Spring & it will get one as a treat  8)

Re: Nitron - adeejaysdelight - 05-02-14

I went with this one punkstig -

http://www.fgspecialparts.it/en/product_details.asp?maker=FG&code=Y0M024FQE11&model=YAMAHA%20FZS%20600%20FAZER&year=2000&product=

Its a nice piece of kit right enough. I have only managed a 50 mile test run in cold Scottish winter conditions mind, but it feels good. I will get it set up properly come the better weather.

Its an easy job changing it out. The old one just drops out the bottom.

Good luck

Re: Nitron - JoeRock - 05-02-14

Bloody good shocks the Nitrons - had the track one (the middle one, with separate rebound and compression damping) on my old 600 hornet and it really changed the rear.
Totally rebuildable, and are also modular - so should you buy another bike you can send it back to them and they'll change it to fit the new bike for about £100!
Only bit I didn't like was the blue spring as my bike was all black, but they do different coloured springs if you ask for them Smile

Ooo, now that is interesting, I still have the T'cat Hagon and phoned them up before swapping it out for the thou shock wondering if they'd do a cheap conversion, 'no' was the answer!

Re: Nitron - bigbluebear - 05-02-14

I have the Nitron Sport fitted to my mighty Fazer Thou and the difference over the original is vast, obviously these are tailor made to suit your riding style and weight etc.........much better than a stolen recovered (get it up ye Luke) refurbished R6 in my opinion.....looks good in blue too

Looks very nice but....

What makes the Nitron sport "much better" than the R6 unit??

Is it the basic dampening control or lack of slow compression adjustment compared to the R6 unit or like you said the colour? :lol :lol

The bet the only tailored bit is matching the spring to your weight....

The thing I really do like is the fact that the shock can be easily lengthened also the design allowing the ends to be changed to fit another bike...

Re: Nitron - kebab19 - 05-02-14

I had the top Nitron model fitted to my 1000.  It was pretty impressive, as was the price.
I also owned an R6 shock fitted to my 1000.  I struggled to notice the difference, although to be fair that may be down to my riding limitations and lack of trackdays.

When I downsized to the 600 I adapted & fitted my R6 shock because I had it leftover in the garage after selling my 1000.  It's true that the additional mods required to fit it to the 600 adds to the price, but it still comes in at just under £200 if you source one for under £120

New R6 shocks from bikes going straight to racing pop up occasionally on ebay.... I know 'cos I bought another one yesterday.  I'm not exactly sure how many miles second-hand R6 shocks appearing on ebay have clocked up, but even the earliest ones from 2008 are unlikely to have clocked up over 12000 miles.  Plenty of life left in them

Re: Nitron - dcurzon - 06-02-14

I have a source for nearly new R6 shocks - bikes converted for racing, and they'll cost £50 + £15postage.
Plus spring around £35
That leaves extras such as spring spacer and dog bones, spacers for the top mount.

It's a bit more fiddly than a plug n play solution, but it's also considerably cheaper!

Don't let Devilsyam know you're undercutting him by so much, and on the same site no less! Wink

Re: Nitron - Mattsplat - 06-02-14

Ive got a Nitron with remote preload  Big Grin

Personally, I dont like the 'baby blue' but was too cheapskate to spend an extra £25 for a black spring  :rolleyes

Re: Nitron - noggythenog - 06-02-14

How much was it to add the remote preload Mattsplat???

I seen it was an option but it was also an option to change the colour to black....but for £25 extra! :eek

& is the adjustor worthwhile, ie how often do you fiddle with it?, it certainly looks the bees knees i cant deny.

Couldnt tell you extra cost, I bought it 2nd hand off an FZ8. Sent it back to Nitron to get it sprung for the FZ1 and my weight etc...

I personally like the adjustor, I ride 2up often and travel with luggage often so a few of clicks to harden it up on the preload and she's good to go. If you ride solo then there isnt much point in the remote unit except for the bling factor  Smile

Cool thanks for the info

Ye that makes sense as im always on my own once i get it set up that's it then.

Oh i feel like just ordering one now so it is ready. Smile

Re: Nitron - Punkstig - 06-02-14

Yeah, unless you constantly change carrying weights then there's no need for the remote adjuster, besides, if you carry the c spanner it's easy enough to change on the fly, but the remote does have a good bling factor!
As for the spring colour I'll probably wrap it in a protector anyway as it's out in all weather's!

The shock socks are about £25, the same price as a black spring from Nitron.

I was too cheap to buy either  :b
