new tool - red98 - 19-01-14 Bought myself a new tool.....trying to get my heating bills down to a sensible level.got the cavity wall insulation boys coming tomorrow so that should help.should be able to measure the difference with the "infrared temperture probe" bought today at lidl for £17.99...tryed it on mrs red and it works well :lol :lol :lol......will also work well on fazer exhaust down pipes to see if all cylinders are up to temp .....dos'nt mention that in the instructions though :rolleyes Re: new tool - Fazerider - 19-01-14 It looks very like the type I bought off ebay for £11 a few months ago: main reason was to keep tabs on the woodburner, but it has also told me cylinder 4 is running a bit cool. You can see some impressively low temperatures by pointing it up on a clear night and if you have a cat there's hours of fun to be had making it chase the laser. All in all, a very good toy. :lol Re: new tool - kitcrazy - 19-01-14 bought one myself friday.great for my rc truck. Re: new tool - red98 - 19-01-14 i had a little play in the kitchen............bedroom later ![]() Re: new tool - fazersharp - 19-01-14 I am a bit concerned though on how accurate these are being so cheep. But I suppose in the exahaust test is dosent matter as all you want to see is that they are all the same. With your house walls do a test before they are filled and then again after, with the heating in your house the same of course Re: new tool - red98 - 19-01-14 yep.....agree with all that...as with all measurement equipment,it needs to be calibrated.....iam going to be using it to "compare only" (think its called "indicating only" in the calibration world) or find weak spots in my insulation......if i had something at a known tempture i could calibrate if its adjustable, not really looked that close yet and to be honest i dont really need it to be accurate, but should be interesting to have a play ![]() Re: new tool - fazersharp - 19-01-14 In the same area about its cheepness --say you are outisde and a distance from your house I know its infra red and all that but I would worry its going to be affected by outside temp and even wind. Its just too cheep to works isnt it. Im the same with cheep lazer levels as I think the lazer is bent Re: new tool - red98 - 19-01-14 Yeh..I understand what your saying......I need to get quite close to get a reading so will be using a ladder and also make sure the tool is the same distance from the wall each time.......might do an un-manly thing and read the instructions first :rolleyes Re: new tool - slimwilly - 19-01-14 Point it at your forehead = 37. summat ![]() |
