Remove old glue from tank - wickedmonkey - 10-01-14
Hi guys,
My Yamaha tank pads are peeling off so I bought a generic pad set from Amazon to replace it. Underneath the old pads is loads of glue. Does anyone know if there's a way of removing this without damaging the paint work on the tank?

solvent based tar and glue remover.
one of the best on the market is Autosmart TARDIS, but there are other ones you can get in halfords etc.
make sure to clean off the T&G remover properly though

Dont bother getting anything "fancy" as you already have what you need cause its in your tank------- petrol

I did this to get the old rubbish tank pad, and those annoying "read owners manual first" labels off too. Just don't douse it or rub at it for too long. I used an old credit card to kind of scrape the mushy glue off too as it's plastic and didn't scratch the paintwork.

when its at that tacky stage keep pushing and rolling it with your thumb and then pick off the sticky balls !!!!!

Wd40 will help shift it, or use a hairdryer on a hot setting to help with scraping and rolling

Done this a few times, hairdryer to get the glue warm, use your thumb to roll it up into small balls then WD40 or petrol to get the last few bits off.
