new guy from boston lincs - fq-craigus - 09-01-14 Hi guys and girls, passed my tests mid dec and bought a 1999 fzs600 a few days after. Its much like the bike I learnt on in style comfort and handling so the familiarity appealed to me and im loving it so far. I use it as my daily hack and also or any other excuse to go somewhere, I have even taken my evo off the road for some work ro be done so plenty more riding. Weather isnt great at the min with the winds and rain but ill get through it and into summer a better rider I think. Re: new guy from boston lincs - mickvp - 09-01-14 welcome to the nuthouse matey :lol Re: new guy from boston lincs - fq-craigus - 09-01-14 Cheers pal Re: new guy from boston lincs - Dave48 - 09-01-14 We;lcome-& for anyone who took their test in December & currently riding in our monsoon/floods/winds--as the man said... "Things can only get better!!!" :lol Re: new guy from boston lincs - hightower - 09-01-14 I quite enjoy riding in the rubbish weather. Nothing quite wakes you up in a morning like watching for oil, puddles, and trying to guess what the wind is going to do. I get to work soaked through, but always smiling about the commute. Couple of tips that I've found so useful especially for wet riding. (sorry if you already know) 1) Nip the tank with you legs when breaking, taking all the weight of your body off your arms. This transfers the weight lower down and means you can stop quicker and with less chance of lock up. 2) When cornering get your weight on the outside peg and hang off the bike a bit. This gives you a better understanding of what the rear tyre is doing, as well as keeping the bike more upright. I do this for every corner in the wet - I'm sure I look like a plonker hanging off the bike like Shakey Byrne, but it gives me so much more confidence in the wet (and allows me to get the throttle opened back up quicker). |
