hello - stevie-g1968 - 26-12-13

right, hi im steve and im getting old (46)
im looking at bying an early fazer600 to replace a zzr600.
I have a bit of biking history so im not a compleat numpty :rollin
in the past ive owner a bandit 600 and a gsx1400 as well as a few tiddlers and the kawakrappy that is going...too uncomfortable for my aches.
anyway the reason im he on this forum is to do my homework and find out the good and bad points of the 600.
I did ride one a few hundred miles, but that was around 12 years ago....I do recall it being a nice ride.
anyway, enough rambling...im going to poke about a bit,

cheers, steve.

Hi Steve, and welcome to the foc-ers.
You can't go wrong with a fazer 600, probably the only bike you'll ever need.
Faults? Boxeye's have probably the worst headlights ever,  and older bikes will have rotten downpipes by now. Brakes need a bit of looking after, but that really is about it.

Enjoy the forum bud, loadsa knowledge on here.

And 46 old????? C'mon, were just getting started at that age!

Re: hello - stevie-g1968 - 26-12-13

hi,...46 going on 146...my knees are shot and my hip gives me jip too...the joys of being a heating engineer.
ive known about the headlights for years, just been reading the headlight upgrades.... brakes are the same for any bike really.
I been poking around and reading about the front sprocket issue, is it widespread?? or just a batch on build dates?
how well do they wear the miles then...smoking engines, oil consumption, rattles etc?

Re: hello - stevierst - 26-12-13

Mileage??? Pah, the fazer laughs at mileage! (just ask punkstig, our mega mileage muncher 350ish thousand miles I think???)
I've personally done about 100k on fazers over 3 ownerships, and they're fantastic. (im after another one once my bandit has sold)

Forgot about the front sprocket nut, shouldn't have really, as one went tits up on me. There's a simple way of checking, and replacement is easy enough.
As for the lights, simple solution, get a foxeye model.

Re: hello - red98 - 26-12-13

Hi steve.you wont have any trouble with the engine...ive just reacently sold one to a guy who had the front sprocket problem....theres not a great demand for second hand engines and thats probably the only reason for buying one......goodchoice with the fazer.not as quick as the zzr but you wont get any aches and pains.....good hunting  Wink

A gsx 1400,,how was that?

And where you from?

Re: hello - Punkstig - 01-01-14

My boxeye was retired at 120,000 miles, she needed loads doing and was a limping 3 legged dog- however, during those miles I didn't do one bit of engine work (valve clearances, cam chain etc)
So if you look after it it'll do more!
