A tip for sun in your eyes - fazersharp - 17-12-13

Having just got back in from a ride out with the low sun in my eyes I remembered what I used to do when I was out everyday. Get some black insulating tape and cover the bottom 1 inch of your visor do it as a straight line so it tapers off at the edges of the visor left and right, when shut you don't loose any visibility as no doubt your helmet has some sort of rubber upstanding in the middle anyway. But when you are at a junction and the sun is in your eyes lift the visor and the tape then acts like a peak on a cap and shades your eyes. Lift the visor up or down to suit.  Obviously only useful whilst stationary or slow moving

Do it round the top as well fella, then it acts as a peak when visor is closed and still doesn't restrict visibility!

Re: Top tip for sun in your eyes - fazersharp - 17-12-13

Could do but it seems more in the way there and I can (with my helmet anyway) sort of look down a bit and get the top of the helmets visor hole do the job.
Your gonna end up with a burka visor

or you could try tinted visor or sunglasses  :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin

Re: Top tip for sun in your eyes - fazersharp - 17-12-13

Thats not what the point of it is. With the tint you are still going to get the glare - direct sun. And with low sun and lots of deep long shadows tints are not a good idea

Flip up Helmet with Built in Visor.

Job done.

ye but my point is i dont want to look like a cock with sparky tape on my visor lol and am sure plod wont look at it nicely  Wink Wink

I wear an amber tint visor all year round and at night too. Improves contrast -especially in the wet and dark and cuts down glare if you are riding into the sun. And, it makes the world look happy and sunny even in february.

Couldn't disagree more, I have yet to find a helmet with flip tint visor adequate enough for a normal sunny day, let alone direct low level sun!
The 'non legal' tint visors do the best job but are hopeless for this time of year with such short daylight hours!

That depends on the level of tint which to be leagal is no use for the low sun in your face

Re: Top tip for sun in your eyes - keithfzs1000 - 17-12-13

come on dude lol a plod will always allow a dark visor in sunlight as they have said for long enough the law is wrong but to obstruct the visor with tape would be a lot worse in their eyes.
i have been stopped numerous times with my simpon lid with a dark visor  :evil :evil and not once was it for that but cos they wanted too lol never had any probs with them and never been done but i do use a normal visor at night  :lol

however eleccy tape on the visor no matter were it s will be seen as obstructing your view similar to those peeps that spray a face on etc etc
personal choice and lots of different views but ye pays ye money ye takes ye chance

Spose - but it aint in your feild of fiew when closed as its at the bottom in the lowest part of your visor scoop, and I already have a bit of rubber (part of the helmet ) there.
And it they are looking at me with a reason to stop they will not notice the thin bit of tape like they would an all over tint
