Throttle Cables - N A Chess - 04-12-13 Hi All It recently occurred to me that my set of throttle cables must be the originals (I have done 42 out of the 50K miles currently showing on my clock and never changed them). Question: Since my cables may be 14 years and 50K miles old, should I expect them to fail at some point now? What are other riders' experiences? I would carry a spare set but have been told they are expensive - as is a genuine Yam clutch cable. Over the years I have experienced a few snapped cables in my time on other bikes; I'm amazed the ones I have on the Fazer have lasted this long to be honest. They do however, 'feel' ok - i.e. they open and shut freely with no sign of sticking. Any views? Stay safe out there. Re: Throttle Cables - Punkstig - 04-12-13 They'll be fine! Re: Throttle Cables - AdieR - 05-12-13 My inclination is that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Are you running the bike over winter, or storing / working on it? Re: Throttle Cables - Fazerider - 05-12-13 I find one cable wears slightly where it exits at the carb end, but at that low mileage they should be OK if they get lubed occasionally. Re: Throttle Cables - darrsi - 05-12-13 Not really expensive if you get at least 15 years out of them!! ![]() Re: Throttle Cables - N A Chess - 05-12-13 Good point Darrsi. :lol AdieR - ridden every working day all year round. Re: Throttle Cables - His Dudeness - 06-12-13 If you're worried about them replace them ![]() Re: Throttle Cables - red98 - 06-12-13 for peace of mind...take them off ,inspect , lube , re-fit and adjust ![]() Re: Throttle Cables - kebab19 - 06-12-13 With old parts, in my experience disturbing them usually means they crumble / splinter / break. I would leave alone if working fine |
