Fender extender - Gray fox - 03-12-13

Just fettled my exhaust down pipes and re sprayed the front of the engine on my Gen 1, looks mint.I want to keep it this way so thinking of fitting a fender extender, the problem is the bike has an R1 front end, think its a 99 mudguard. Cant seem to find one to fit. Anyone else done this mod? and will the extra drag affect performance? especially when doing wheelies.

Not experience it  causing drag to effect peformance, however they have been known to cause the mudguard to crack (personal experience) over time if doing prolonged high speeds over long distances (i.e over 120mph say touring Germany etc) obviously not in this country officer  :evil

apparantly the drag causes stress fractures to form in front of the forkes

I found most to look cheap and chatty, search for fender flick, they are nicer looking.[Image: e2aju9uh.jpg]

Thanks guys, think I will just keep cleaning the engine as the extenders are a bit ugly. Don't think anyone makes one for an early R1 anyway.

Not  on the thou but recently bought a "Fender Flick" from M&P Direct for my 600. Seen the results of shit thrown up on the front of engine too many times-had to spend on the previous blue 600 as past owner only cleaned bits visible from saddle! Ended up replacing all exhaust nuts, drill out & retap for 1 new stud, fit new rad(old one falling apart with corrosion) and entire exhaust system with Motad stainless as orig wasn't even fit for scrapman!
Very nicely made item & looks the bizz. Shorty front mudguards are a triumph of fashion over sound engineering IMO but then Im an old fashioned f****r! :lol
