FZS1000 - FZS600 How much longer is it ? - Jdalt - 02-12-13
When I was buying a bike I had to bear in mind that the bike had to fit down an entry and into the yard at the back of my house. My FZS600 is just about manageable with a bit of manoeuvring to get down the alley and round a corner into my backyard. I now want to change my 600 for a 1000 but am unsure whether I will actually be able to get it into the yard. I have the dimensions for my 600 but cannot find the exact dimensions for the 1000.
I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me the exact dimensions so I can consider my options.

The Haynes manual puts the FZS1000 at 2125mm from the tip of the exhaust to the front of the front tyre
it's also 765mm wide apparently

The difference on paper is about 40mm, That should not be a problem then.

Had similar situation when I got my FZS1000 2 yrs ago. Have to negotiate a side path & right angle bend as I occupy the middle of 3 terraced houses and bike shed is in my back garden. It isnt just the extra length of the thou but also the width coupled with the available "lock". Persuaded (bribed with beer!) my neighbour to sacrifice the corner of his garden but still had to cover the upright concrete fence posts with bubble-wrap & secure with tie-wraps. Scratched bodywork is a ball-ache-unsightly & costly to put right. Have now reverted to FZS 600 due to increasing age-its lighter & easier but I still miss my lovely "Big Red"!

Well I decided the only way to find out was to try it, so I picked up a nice example from ebay and am now the proud owner of a nice shiny FZS1000 which I can manage to fit through the gate.

I think I got a good deal, I just had to replace the Chain and Sprockets and a rear tyre.
More for peace of mind than anything and it it runs very smooth now.
