Paddock stands - Davebo - 01-12-13 You chaps are usually not short of opinions, so... I was thinking about getting some paddock stands for my Gen 1 Thou. I can do most routine checks, etc. just with the centre stand, but I was planning on cleaning the down pipes, servicing the EXUP and potentially getting the wheels spruced up over the winter. So is it worth investing in a pair of paddock stands or not ? If so, what paddock stands out there are ideal for the Thou please ? TIA, DBo. Re: Paddock stands - Captain Haddock - 01-12-13 If you're an old git with dodgy knees like me (own up you lot, you aint far behind) it's worth paying a bit more and getting one of the cheapy hydraulic benches that are on ebay these days, makes life a lot easier for maintenence jobs, as long as you use it occaisionally it will pay off in the end. Just remember they are all cheap chinese made..... I got a second hand SIP one for £150 and it takes the thou fine despite it being a cheap pile of crud, if it only lasts a couple of years it will be worth it, use the safety bar though...... Re: Paddock stands - BMCfaz - 01-12-13 I can't see that you'd need a pair if you've got the centre stand, just something to prop the front up if you take the front wheel off. I took the centre stand off my Gen1 and, when I need to do anything substantial to it, I use an ABBA Superbike stand. Easier for one person to use than paddock stands and very stable. Highly recommended, and they do a front support to go with it if you want to take the front wheel off. Details here: http://www.abbastands.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=1 |
