Christ its cold in here - slimwilly - 23-11-13

This house has a conservatory , plastic roof open plan with the kitchen,obvious against building regs,,

but over night it bloody freezes in here,i got a fluffy furry hat on fot the first hour until the woodburner warms up.

Red ears :eek

It is 5 degrees in here , and -3 outside

..Miss my wood burner matey!! cost me fk all to run it!!..could have bought 3new bikes with money it costs me now in friggin gas!!....i was running 11 rads with mine and it was fantastic!!..but her who does the hoovering wanted it out!!... :rolleyes

Oh dear, its good to keep one andwood in the shed incase of the dreaded power cuts in freezing times.I now set up some of my customers with 3 pin plug on their heating systems so if power goes off they can run it on a genny.

I have just come back from a dag walk , bloody icey out there, amazing morning though.

Now out pheasant shooting all day, it;s what winters are for.

Oh and when i just got back,kitchen,conservatory up to a toasty 20 degrees

Same layout as ours, bloody freezing, can keep the temp up in the evening with huge curtain across between kitchen/living room and conservatory but the mornings...brrrrrr
Dont know about you but ours is rented, cant understand the thinking freezing in the winter, baking in the summer and cant hear the tel when it rains :'(

Same here and mine's rented too so I can't change it - although mine has a 'solid' roof, it's just solid plastic sheet with a layer of PB under it, just can't understand why he didn't shove some insulation in the gap. At least I have a wood burner stove - when I can be arsed to get it lit.

Why not put up a thermal curtain barrier between the rooms? Close it in the evening and keep the heat in Smile

been watching my gas use too....old gas boiler needs replacing really...so took a reading and its costing £1.90 per hour to heat my house,3 bed semi with extra beed room in the loft,8 rads in total,....that sounds expensive too me...what do you think foccers ?....also been looking at cavity wall insulation,you use to be able to get this for free with gov grant but not anymore unless your on benifits....british gas quoted me £500....take a long time to recoup that :\

...kin hell paul?..that is a lot?...we got ours down to £60 per month on gas that was capped last year!!...but ive got cavity wall insulation and had the loft re done to whatever the regs are now?....and its made a massive diff to the house both in warmth and costs!!...min at moment 8hrs per day on timed has well?..".so you" looking at ..£15..t..16 per day? :eek ....think that quote off british gas ..would pay for itself pretty quick at that mate?.....oh and we running 11 rads?

So far I'm lucky - I stay in the house all day and don't have to put the heating on. My PC is a fair bit of a monster and acts as a radiator for the room and is pretty efficient. The actual PC stays cool, at around 40C but the room heats up nicely to 24C+ - it reached 29C yesterday which was just ridiculous but it did have some help from the sun. This is only a double bedroom though, the rest of the house is freezing cold, but I don't care as I don't use the rest of the house much Tongue

Yes, i am the same as the others,this is rented, there was a big walk through doorway(without doors) into the dining room too,so that was freezing too,so i have built a stud wall there .

Bloke must of been an idiot when he done this.

Then I am sorry as it was not you then. I dont know how much of an option this would be and it may but your landlords back up, but you could go to building control and piont it out to them and they could make them put in doors between the origional building outer wall and the conservatory. I bet its nice in the summer though - or is it humid and hot. I would say that if they have done that then it wont have had any other building control in palce such as floor insulation or proper damp proof.
