How far on the fuel light - Arbie - 11-11-13

Hi there. Just wondered how far you can go after the fuel light comes on with the 22l tank. Cheers.

Re: How far on the fuel light - Andy FZS - 11-11-13

You can as far as the fuel lastsTongue

Re: How far on the fuel light - Arfa - 11-11-13

10miles, maybe 20 miles. Feeling lucky punk?!

Re: How far on the fuel light - fazersharp - 12-11-13

Ive done maybe 14 - motorway 55mph bricking it all the way home, only to look inside and see what looks like loads left

You have an 18 litre tank, not a 22.

If the light comes on when it should then according to Yamaha there should be 3.5 litres..

Re: How far on the fuel light - Paul - 12-11-13

I once bungied 5 litres of fuel to my rack and tried it once and managed about 45 miles from the light coming on to actually running out of fuel.

Easy 30 miles, but wouldn't recommend aiming to push much further!

I started to run out on the M6 up a slight hill, got to the top and cut out completely, sign at top of hill said Corley services 1 mile, clicked into neutral, slipped into hard shoulder and cruised the whole way into the services and all the round to the station, got off the bike and a little jig!

Yep, one lucky punk!

Mine comes on with a quarter of a tank left so I usually ignore it. Doesn't run out until after the needle goes past the middle line of the E

Re: How far on the fuel light - redthunder - 12-11-13

If I look at the figures from my one of my last fill ups I got 19.6 litres of juice after 206 miles - light would have been on. Still almost 2.5 litres of fuel in the tank.

And at 47.72mpg from that tank (.66 of a gallon) my calculations leave me with about 31 miles worth of petrol.

There is fuel in the tank that can't be used. The reason is that the tap has a stand pipe on it 40mm long, the top 26mm part being mesh, acting as a rough filter, but the bottom 14mm is just a tube. From a measurement I once did with the bike level but stationery it took 1.5 litres before any fuel flowed out of the tap. Of course on the move that last bit of fuel would be swishing about so some of it would get through. Also 0.2 litres of that fuel is below the tap fitting face. If you ever decide to completely drain the tank, to get a bit of water out for instance, you have to do a lot of shaking to get the last bit out.
Not an answer to the original question I'm affraid  :\

Wow!

How much do you weigh sir, and what sort of mileage was it, motorway, A roads, or urban?

Re: How far on the fuel light - apage16 - 17-11-13

I have the 20l tank and 17/46 gearing (standard 15/48).

I get 50 miles on the light easy. And always still have around 0.5l still in the tank when I brim it.

Of course, when the light comes on you subconsciously don't rinse the throttle so much!
