True Average Mileage - twosheds - 03-11-13
If you were to be brutally honest what mpg would you say that you normally get out of this model, box or fox eye, with the retuned thundercat engine?

steve - ta, around 47 mpg then, on average
fizzy - that's a big variation, on my xj 600 (1990) pre-divvy the range is something like 45 - 62 mpg, but of course that's a different animal, more touring/commuter of yesteryear :o

My fazer 600 was 55 ish mpg. Best mileage was 73!!!

Between about 45 and 65 usually, between normal riding with a bit of thrashing and motorway cruising at about 85.
Worst I've had so far was about 37, but that was a full tank of pretty much 9000+ back when it was sunny!

Sorry, people but can I slightly modify this question and ask - What's the fuel capacity of a Fazer tank and how many miles would you expect to get from a tank, litres/gallons? (4.5 litres=1 gallon)

98/99 18 litres
00/01 20 litres
02/03 22 litres
As a very loose rule i'd say 10 miles per litre is a good way of calculating, but obviously conditions and speed will alter things +/-

140 miles every 2 days. refill 10 to 11 litres dependant on traffic/conditions/etc.
Mix of dual carriage way and town (London) driving

London tends to foc mileage up, i haven't even bothered checking my mpg because it's pointless, i'm always in bloody traffic. :'(

I've done about 300 miles today dispatching and put in £32.00 , works out to about £1.00 every 10 miles at the end of the week . A damn site better than my X11

£32 buys about 24 litres, 300 divided by 24 = 12.5 miles per litre, multiply by 4.55 to convert to mpg, that's 57 - you're doing pretty good if I've worked that out correctly.
My feeling, with my bikes, is that speed drinks fuel, especially upper motorway speeds.
does despatch riding pay? Once I lived in a group of flats (converted house) in East Dulwich, SE London - there was a despatch guy in the attic rooms, wow his place was a mess (lovely bloke) - just worked all hours, this was back in the 1980's.

He put in £32, that doesn't mean he's got an empty tank though, but you're along the right lines.

Not anymore, no, well at least not compared to what it used to (cheaper petrol/ oil/ tyres/ maintenance) where oil has gone up x amount the individual job value has hardly gone up at all!

I always reset trip meter when refueling - fill to the top. So when I refuel, I divide litres poured in with kilometers driven since last full. Multiply that by 100 and get litres per 100 kilometers - which is the usual measurement in Serbia.
Most of the time it is around 15 litres after 250 to 300 kilometers. Best I got was 4.5 litres per 100k, the worst was 6.5 - but it almost never goes over 6 (nor below 5.5). My wife's car has 1200cc, 60 bhp and uses around 6 litres per 100k, so guess motorcycles are not abut fuel efficiency.

No despatching ain't what it was the rates haven't gone up in 27 years. I worked for Addison lee in the late eighties and a minimum paid £3.75 with bonus, and I'm back with them again and a minimum is still £3.75. Take home is about £500 take out fuel running costs for the bike and insurance £1000 . I'm a mechanic so service the bike myself so that cuts the cost, but you can put on the miles when it was at courier systems I did 8500 miles in 6 weeks.
