How do you clean the ignition switch / barrel - carrier - 29-10-13

Turns out the problem I've been having is that the ignition switch isn't providing a good contact between the "alarm" and the blue yellow wire. By measuring the volts going through the black wire (on my bike its blue/black) when there was 10v the bike wouldn't start while when there was under 1v it would.

So yeah...how can I remove the barrel, strip it and clean it?

You could try electric contact cleaner, had a problem with my ign switch and it worked. There is no alarm on my bike but it was turning over but not firing. Its seems fine now for the last few months.

So just spray it down the barrel?

I remember someone on here saying never spray stuff like wd down alock & that graphite is the best for sticking locks....but thats prob got nowt to do with the ignition switch.

Ive actually got a sticking front door lock on my house so i just looked online & right enough you can buy a graphite spray...

Heres a link...no idea if it'll work but worth investigation surely

Use electrical contact cleaner.  Squirt a load down the key hole, stick the key in and turn it on/off a few times.

I had problems starting (turned over fine but no spark) which turned out to be a dirty ignition barrel, this fixed it.

I've been having this problem for a while now...where have you been!?!?! I think someone needs to make a common problem post.
