Hi all.
Just posted up in the introduction section, and am new here.
Just bought myself an 03 FZS600.
Basically, I'm just looking at some small changes for the time being, small, cheap and cheerful mods - Something to start making it my own, once i've paid the parents back a little more, i'll start looking at the slightly costlier stuff..
Any advice welcome

There was a post on here a few months back where people listed the mods done to their bikes but i can't find it, maybe somebody else may know where it is?

Hello mate and welcome
The only thing lacking on the 600 is the suspension, if I were you its here where I would start..
Other common mods are handlebars, bubble screen, hugger, braided brake lines and rear brake caliper from a thou...

There's a little issue with the front sprocket nut, as in they can fall off! :eek
I'd check to see if you have the newer one fitted or not as a priority.
The original one is 9mm wide, and the new one is 12mm wide.
There's plenty of info on here if you put "front sprocket nut" in the search box above.
The recommended torque setting for the new one is 90Nm, although some of us, including me, were happy to leave it at 80Nm.

By those sizes I'm assuming you mean the head of the bolt? Obviously the thread size would remain the same? Excuse me for being a touch basic!

Took my mechanic 40mins to get my nut off. (that sounds dirty :lol )
But i s'pose it's better to have than to have lost.
If yours is on there solid i would just leave it alone until you need a new chain & sprockets.

The chain and rear sprocket at least are recent so will check this out I think. Did have to tighten the chain a touch earlier too

mmmmm cheap mods.............if the bikes new to you,check the suspension settings,back and front,what was good with the previous owned may not be good for you...i suggest going back to standard settings to start with

Wish I knew where to start really
I'm only around 60 kilos or 8 and a half stone. Don't really know what to look for in settings either lol

A good place to start might be preload notch 5 on the shock and 4 lines showing on the fork preload adjusters. I think they're the standard settings and probably not a bad match for your weight.

Surely if it's siezed on pointless changing it until you have to replace front sprocket

Take off the fairings handle bars and sell them
Use the cash to get a set of dominators and renthals

Lots of reasons. Wider for more leverage or just because you find it more comfortable.

lower... you guessed it... comfort...
It's amazing how changing the position of the bars/controls can affect your posture while riding. It's like getting adjustable pegs can stop you getting sore legs/back/arse.. haha
Some bars look better than others too. I don't really like the shape of the standard bars so will probably go for black renthals at some point.
As for the topic. Depends what look you want the bike to have... changing the lights in the dash is a good one, K&N air filter, a good service will always help, change fork oil, give it a polish.... these are all cheap ways to improve/get to know your bike
