What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Andy FZS - 24-10-13 Ok then I keep looking at 2003-05 thous because I like the logo on the tank rather than the text, but I can never be sure if a bike is original or not frames are different colours is that an age thing? Engines are different colours is that an age thing some silver ones have a black mudguard and tail, as do some red ones. The red ones somtimes have a black fairing as well, some say ex up 1000 on the fairing some don't? My foxeye 600 has graphics on the tail should they be on a thou? At the moment I'm just looking but by the year end/ early next year hopefully prices will have bottomed and if I can find the right one at the right price then who knows, but what is the right one???:-\ Cheers Andy Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Davebo - 24-10-13 If I were you I'd get the Haynes manual. There's a nice Yamaha and Fazer history section at the start. All I know is the FZ1000S has a black engine and swingarm. I know that coz I got one. :-) Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - red98 - 24-10-13 mines a 04...dont think its a "s"...has silver engine and silver swingarm and exup logo on fairing ![]() Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - locksmith - 24-10-13 They're all gen1's if they got carbs! Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Tmation - 24-10-13 The FZS1000 (gen 1's) have carbs and tubular frame with a one piece seat, right way up forks etc. The were made from 2001 to 2005 (you can find later registered ones) and come in single colours or twin colours (USA ones are twin tone)as you have described, they can also have black or silver engines. The FZ1000S (gen 2) has fuel injection, aluminium frame, upside down forks, two piece seat and was made starting 2006 to present. And its shit lol Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Andy FZS - 24-10-13 Ok thanks for the info so far. Maybe the title is misleading the info I'm looking for is how to decide if a bike is origional or has been dropped and patched up? Things like decals seem to be missing from some but on others, some have the fairing and tail the same colour as the tank some don't. I may be being picky but I am picky, if I go to view a bike I want to know how it should look before I arrive and if it doesn't match up either walk away or use this info as leverage on price. Once bought I'd be disappointed to discover something later on. Cheers Andy Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Falcon 269 - 24-10-13 2001-2002 bikes had the Yamaha lettering on the tank. All came with the logo thereafter but some 2002 bikes would have been registered in 2003. Silver engines on all 2001-2002 bikes, then the black engines started to appear in 2003. Silver engines continued for a couple of years, I think, dependent on colour scheme overall. Lighter silver colours should be the same for tail, tank, mudguard and fairing. Black tail units are standard on dark grey (Mistral) and the later Lava Red bikes. The fairing on the latter is black with the red added by decal. The fact that some have fairing decals and some don't will be down to personal preference (I removed mine, for instance) or could be indicative that the fairing has been replaced but not had new decals added. You would have to ask the seller and decide whether or not he's hiding accident damage somehow. There's usually other clues, such as scratched bar ends, paint flaking on the fairing subrame if it was bent and straightened ... you have find that yourself. ![]() The yellow/black version in the UK was 2003 only. Not many around. Same goes for US imports which will be either the Skunk version (black, grey, white - very nice ![]() You should, of course, ignore anything which isn't in the original and fastest blue ... ![]() Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - locksmith - 24-10-13 Is bikez.com still around, that site used to have every year/colour bike pictured. I'm thinking I like the silver and dark silver, I also like the lava red anyway I think you've answered my question. Now all I need to do it keep looking until the right one comes up. Cheers Andy Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - nick crisp - 24-10-13 All FZS1000 gen 1s are model code 5LV, if you're not sure. This is usually found on a little white label on the frame, under the seat, eg, 5LV 020 C. The number denotes year, the letter refers to colour. As well as using the chassis no., any Yam dealer can look up which bike it is with this. Also, they can look on the parts catalogue, which will show what decals etc it should have. Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - sadlonelygit - 24-10-13 Early 'YAMAHA' on the tank bikes have even no's on the speedo and a light switch, silver frames and silver engines. 2003 on have dark grey frames, no light switch, all the numbers on the speedo. 2004/5 confuse me with black engines and black swingarms, but sometimes silver swingarms Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - nick crisp - 24-10-13 I thought they only ever did the frame in 2 colours - early ones a dark silver/grey, late models black? Never seen a frame done in a light silver. Same with engines, light silver or black. Have had 4 pre-2003 bikes now, all with dark silver/grey frames. Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - sadlonelygit - 25-10-13 Silver or light grey, wgas titanic grey to be precise Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Tmation - 25-10-13 US import Skunk 2004 (made Nov 2003) ![]() with standard colour (color ![]() ![]() Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Falcon 269 - 25-10-13 Any excuse for a photo, eh? :lol But, man, that's one handsome Fazer. ![]() Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - unfazed - 25-10-13 The FZS1000 Gen 1 was the carburettor model Fazer 1000 and there were 2 variants The FZS1000 which was available from 2001 to 2005 and had a silver engine and a different colour silver frame. The FZS1000S which was available from 2003 to 2005 and had a black engine and black frame. The Yamaha logo first appeared on the tank in 2003 and was on both versions to the end. FZS1000 The 2001 models were coded 5LV1 and came in 3 colours which the catalogue called: Black 2, Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C and Vivid Red Cocktail 7 with Yamaha name on Tank The 2002 models were coded 5LV8 and came in 3 colours which the catalogue called: Black 2, Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C and Silver 3 with Yamaha name on Tank The 2003 models were coded 5LVF and came in 2 colours which the catalogue called: Dark Purplish Blue Metallic L and Silver 3 with Yamaha Logo on Tank The 2004 models were coded 1C21 and came in 2 colours which the catalogue called: Dark Purplish Blue Metallic L and Silver 3 with Yamaha Logo on Tank The 2005 models were coded 1C28 and came in 2 colours which the catalogue called: Dark Purplish Blue Metallic L and Dark Bluish Gray Metallic 8 with Yamaha Logo on Tank . FZS1000S The 2003 model was coded 5LVN and came in 1 colour which the catalogue called: Reddish Yellow Cocktail 1 with Yamaha Logo on Tank The 2004 model was coded 1C25 and came in 1 colour which the catalogue called: Bluish Silver 4 with Yamaha Logo on Tank The 2005 model was coded 1C2A and came in 1 colour which the catalogue called: Deep Red Metallic K with Yamaha Logo on Tank Some imports from Europe have FZ1 on the fairing because they could not use the name Fazer because some company were already using the name Fazer in the country of origin. The American models also had FZ1 on the fairing for the same reason and had a few extra colours. Now you know ![]() The best model of the lot is the 1C2A because thats the one I have :lol Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - Andy FZS - 26-10-13 The best model of the lot is the 1C2A because thats the one I have :lol [/quote] Is that the one I've seen described as lava red it's looks to be metallic with the black fairing and tail if so then I agree it's one of my favourite colours even though I don't like red (the colour not Paul) but I do like a silver engine and swinging arm on some others. Never mind I've got a few more weeks until I get a bit of spare cash to buy so no rush. Cheers for the info Andy Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - unfazed - 26-10-13 Yes thats the one ![]() The one I have was registered in 2006 Re: What is an FZS1000 gen1?? - nick crisp - 26-10-13 Ah, hadn't realised the model code changed from 5LV. Thanks for putting me straight on that one Unfazed. |
