carb advice please - Muddi Camel - 18-10-13 I suspect the carbs need unblocking and cleaning. I haven't run the bike for a while, and now it won't idle. Is there anything I should look out for? How long will it take? Any special tools or parts I should have first? Thanks Re: carb advice please - Paul - 19-10-13 I've encountered a similar problem. Left a fazer stood for a couple of years, and it wouldn't run right. Ultimately I had to: Take the tank off Take the battery off Take the airbox covers off. Release the air box and pull it back Release all the carb rubbers Disconnect choke and throttle cables Pull the damn carbs out Take off the float bowls Clean all the jets out and the fuel cut off needles Try and clean out a bloody jet that was in fact a blanking jet and didn't have a hole in it to clean out... that took ages Blow out all the drillings with compressed air and carb cleaner Put it all back together Balance the carbs, and check the TP sensor In any event it worked and the bike ran fine, but it was a fag of a job Now I charge the battery and run it once a month and I've put some Redex in the tank. My conclusion is that they don't like being stood for long periods of time, well at least not the carbs. Actually that's not true, the other thing I had a problem with was the plugs. It ran fine before than I left it stood for a couple of years, and then when I tired to start it one of the plugs wouldn't work, and my mate had a similar problem on an ER5. Why a plug should fail when you leave a bike stood is beyond me, but still there you go.
