Failed MOT - Torque - 17-10-13

Hi,
I've had a MOT today but, unfortunately I've failed.

Fail list:
1. Rear susp. bush excessive free play.
2. Brake lever inadequate reserve travel (propably air in hoses)
3. Not a full registration plate
4. Nearside rear footrest insecure

Ad 1.
The man said that bottom bearing it's too lose, but would be good to replace a kit.
He wrote down on the list:
Tri arm bush kit
Bottom shock and Rear tri arm bush/bearing

EDIT: I've also found such a kit:

He said that kit would be about 45 quids (not genuine), however he would charge me 90 quids repair including parts.
For me it seems to be not too bad, but just wanted to verify if it's reasonable price for that?

... and got mixed feeling if it will help.

If it's not reasonable price do you know where I can find set of all bearings in that place?
So I will just literally replace them when wheel is already removed.

Ad 2. I've ordered brake fluid so I will also replace it when I am already here.

Ad 3. Do you have idea where it's the best place to order new legal plate?

Ad 4. Ok so the problem is that rider left footrest it's turning.
It was not problem for me at all. I've had a feeling that it's adjusting to gear change lever.
I've dismounted that (2 hex bolts), but there is no screw at all to tighten that.
Right foot rest seems to be solid.

How do I repair that?

Changing the bushes can be a pig of a job if you don't have workshop space and decent tools- for £90 might as well get him to do it!
To tighten the footrest remove the whole unit from the frame and there's a Allen bolt head on the other side which hopefully if you tighten will stop the footrest from turning!
And he should have offered to order a reg plate for you!

The foot rest should fit into a round hole but with a flat side so if it is loose you should be able to turn it left and right and feel it stop after less that 1/4 turn. If it turns all the way around then the flat side on the ally hanger has rounded. You need to (as punk says) take off the hanger with the footrest and on the vback is a large allen bolt - tis that which needs to be very tight.

That's correct. It was so dirty that I did not realized that very big hex key fitted. It's fixed Wink

Ad 1.
I am trying search parts to replace, however I've not found and bush kits for tri-arm.

Today I've left my bike for repairs, but man said that it won't be £90, but about £160, because he could not find aftermarket rear suspensions bushes kit, but Yamaha genuine.
This f**** bushes are staying expensive. Do you have idea where can I get kit?

Just buy a second hand linkage block with decent bearings off ebay. Much cheaper

I wouldn't be too worried about the bolts as they are unlikely to be worn. The main thing is the condition of the bearings inside the linkage block, if in doubt ask the seller before buying to confirm they're good so you can return them if they are not.

Once you have a good linkage block, all you have to do is replace the current one, very easy job with the right tools.

Sorry guys, I had terrible cold last days.

I've ordered linkage for about 25 from eBay in very good condition and bought 0,5kg of moly grease from Halfords for 6 quids.
It took about 1 hour to detach old one and about one hour to fit new one. You don't need to take off the wheel, it can be done from the right side of motorcycle !.
Now It would take me like 10-20 minutes to detach and the same for fitting new one Wink

Also ordered plate on eBay, changed fluid and bleeded air, but I think that dust seals should be replaced in a few weeks months, because brake it's still soft.

However FZS600 was running very well till MOT. Now after few rainy days, got major issue with ignition/carbs or sth like that, because it runs like 50cc moped and engine does not run smooth. I need to describe it with my poor english in separate topic (I will try search before).
