wrong gear of sorts - midden - 05-10-13 So you come to a junction, slow right down and forget dropping down the gears then accelerate in too high a gear (or low whichever it is :o ) do you get a horrendous noise presumably from the chain Re: wrong gear of sorts - Punkstig - 05-10-13 The engine would bog down and stutter but the only reason you'd get chain noise is if its too loose and you're only noticing it because of the 'quieter' engine noise Re: wrong gear of sorts - unfazed - 05-10-13 Engine pinking under load Re: wrong gear of sorts - midden - 05-10-13 so would that sounds rather horrendous Re: wrong gear of sorts - Andy FZS - 05-10-13 Sometimes if I roll out of a junction were I've slowed but not stopped in too high a gear or too few revs less than 1500 say, then yes I do get a bit of noise from the chain / engine. I usually just change down or keep the throttle gentle untill the revs increase. Andy ![]() Re: wrong gear of sorts - midden - 05-10-13 that would be the same then. kind of hard to describe the sound other than kind of grinding Re: wrong gear of sorts - Andy FZS - 05-10-13 I'm not sure if I actually hear anything but I can definitely feel it. Re: wrong gear of sorts - Fazerider - 05-10-13 Lugging. Sounds bad and it does nasty things to your engine. Plain bearings rely on the surfaces moving past each other to maintain the oil film (like aquaplaning)… too big a load at very low revs means the pressure can exceed the film strength.
