AIS removal - esetest - 25-09-13

I am planning to paint the rocker cover during the winter months , which will involve removing the radiator and the AIS .
It would seem a good idea to replace the AIS with the Ivan's AIS removal kit , which appears to be a cheap mod and Pats motorcycle page has a step by step guide .
But the instructions do warn that removing the AIS can cause the bike to fail the emissions part of the MOT , has anybody experienced this .
Thanks in advance for any advice .

there is no MOT emissions test for bikes at the moment

I think that is for American bikes. mine went straight through its MOT

Doh , I should have known that , I shall order a kit and get that done during winter break .

Re: AIS removal - Falcon 269 - 26-09-13

Hold on ordering the kit.

Get 4 x M8 stainless socket head bolts, 12mm long is enough, and a good quality M8 HSS tapered tap and you can do exactly the same for a fraction of the price.

I can't stress enough the importance of getting a good tap, though ... none of yer cheap rubbish or it will end in tears.  And tapered, OK?

Hi Falcon , thanks for the tip , do you know the dia of the rubber caps , I was thinking of the rubber sleeves they put on the end of cable flexes as an alternative .

The cap on the vacuum stub in the carb rubber is the same as the other three.  Or, you can just trim the AIS hose there and plug it with a bolt.

I used a cap from a milk carton or something like that to cover the airbox stub.  Dab of silicon, job's a good 'un. Smile
