WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - brooker81 - 23-09-13 Anyone got one they wanna part with Re: WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - nick crisp - 23-09-13 I've never found the need for one on these bikes. Even on very high speed sweepers, mine have always been steady as a rock. If you've got a steering stability problem, I would look for a reason for it. I think fitting a steering damper is treating a symptom that wouldn't be there if everything else was good. I have never even seen one fitted to a gen1. I do push mine quite hard a lot of the time but accept of course that there will be others who are faster than me, but the only way I can see that someone might need one is if they use the bike on track a lot. If you have another reason in mind, I'd be interested to hear it ![]() Re: WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - brooker81 - 23-09-13 Rode me mates R1 this weekend with and without and just made things soooooo much better roung the corners at Aintree.Maybe just the R1 symptom but thought it was an improvement so would be on the fazer as well.thought i would try before installing new front suspension as seems costly and a ballache. Re: WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - fireblake - 23-09-13 +1 with what Nick says Mickey Re: WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - brooker81 - 23-09-13 Why do they make them then just for track use ?? Re: WANTED GEN 1 STEERING DAMPER. - nick crisp - 23-09-13 Some bikes need them more than others. I'd guess that with the kind of geometry you get on some sports bikes, which are designed to turn into a corner quickly, it can lead to instability problems at high speeds, when pushed really hard. It was common to put them on older Jap bikes in the 70s and 80s, cos they didn't tend to handle very well at speed. But the Fazer has a lazier geometry which makes it steadier at speed, tho not as quick to turn. I questioned about dropping them on the forks (quickens the steering) but everyone who's done it says they can take that and still be stable at high speed. My Fazer is lowered at the front with R1 forks, jacked at the back... all for nimble handling and is still steady as a rock in straight lines, around corners on one wheeel or two - way into three figure numbers. |
