Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 15-09-13

Just playing with the map for a decent sunny Sunday - thoughts anyone?

Aaaargh, spent last half hour trying to do a google maps route but can't seem to copy/save it!  :pc

Ok, the idea is:

Motorcycle Mega Store, Swindon (burger wagon in car park and bench seating) to Cricklade, B4553.
B4040 via Malmesbury to Acton Turville
B4039 via Castle Combe to Chippenham
A4 via Marlborough to Hungerford.
A338 and B4000 to Highworth.
Back to M/cycle Megastore, Swindon.
A gnats over 100 miles.

Ooohh, I will be interested in this. I know a few of those roads I think and I should be in Bristol by the time it gets organised (I think...)

I'm free. (said in my camp voice)

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 15-09-13

There have been a few Foccers saying they're from this region lately, so thought it'd be a good idea to get together a few of us, meet some more "faces" and see what kind of run we can put together. The above route is just a "first draft" - I'm kinda hoping some of the guys from round here might know the region better than I do and perhaps suggest some interesting alterations, if not, it'll do for a first go. I deliberately wanted to keep it relatively short as the days are getting shorter, and it also gives more time for anyone further away to get to the meet point.

I'm also hoping that the weather will be kind (and nothing else comes up) on Wednesday so I can try to explore certain parts of it that I've never done, just picked off the map. If not, I may be able to check something out next Saturday on the way to IVANISING!! ( :lmao2 Confusedmokin )

So, completely open to (route!) suggestions at the mo. And can someone plot it on google and post, as this idiot don't know what the foc he's doing  :rolleyes

When is your move, Liam?

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - Dead Eye - 16-09-13

End of this month - so in about 2 weeks

Last weekend of this month is probably a write-off BUT I might be setup by then... find out closer to the time

Spent most of today tidying up and sorting out the garage

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 20-09-13

Got next week off, hoping to explore some options on this, how soon to plan it for? Don't want to leave it too long, want half a chance of decent weather. When will people be available to do it? (noted yours, Deadeye, was really thinking of sooner, maybe next weekend (30th) or one after).

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - Dead Eye - 20-09-13

I may be around for the 30th Smile As the dates getting closer, things are becoming more definitive in terms of my availability ^^

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - slimwilly - 20-09-13

I may be Salmon fishing in Scotlandshire sir

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 20-09-13

I've been looking at the route and streetview on Google maps, and I'm starting to get the feeling that the proposed route from Swindon to Chippenham isn't a great one. The route out to Cricklade is just too built up and boring, and the B4040 looks way too straight! Further research needed! :\

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - slimwilly - 21-09-13

Dorset !!!!

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - driller2 - 21-09-13

Nick - what dates were you thinking of ?  I read this today and thought that would be a good way to take advantage of tomorrows (22nd) excellent forecast.

ps. Are ex foccers allowed to tag along ?

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - esetest - 21-09-13

Today i turned left off  the A36 as you go into Salisbury onto the A360 across Salisbury plain  heading for Devizes , then through Avebury onto Swindon , good scenic road , not too  much traffic , you could try that route in reverse .

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - slimwilly - 21-09-13

I have only got three forward gears , no reverse sorry :o

I can't see any reason why you couldn't join in  Smile
I think tomorrow is a bit short notice for others who may want to do it, maybe next weekend if the weather holds. However, if the weather's good towards the end of this week, I might be doing a spot of camping in Wales too. Jeez, I'm gonna be knackered by the time I go back to work  :lol

Just did the A4 past Avebury today, I'd like to get that on the route, as it's a really fast, winding bit of road, no speed cameras, and wide for overtaking too. But the route needs some fun, twisty B road type stuff too. The Marlborough Downs area is pretty good I think, just how to get a nice loop out of it?

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 22-09-13

Oh, sod the route - who wants to go for a ride around the Marlborough Downs sometime?  :rolleyes

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - midden - 22-09-13

Will this be happening Sunday 29th and if so what will be the rough timings.  I may venture across to Wiltshire to join in and then head back to London for night shift if time allows Smile

Any others from Kent or London thinking of going?

Re: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire Foccers - nick crisp - 23-09-13

Would be nice to have a few others commit, then, if I know where most people are headed from, I could adjust the meeting point to suit. E.g., if there are a lot of guys coming across from London, we could meet at Hein Gericke on the A40 at Oxford (burger van in car park for refreshments) and head out from there. If most guys come from further west, then meet at Swindon etc. It's easy to lose interest if no one shows interest!

I'm also wondering why there's been no post on the next LoFo ride?

Is it the weather?!!
