FZS 600 not starting - thunderpantz - 10-09-13 Hi all, basically i'm getting used to the bike and actually owning one. I'm having issues starting it. Tried it on choke, off choke, partial choke, partial throttle and is very hit and miss to get it going. Once it's going it's fine and then starting it again is spot on when it's 'warm'. It's just the initial start up. Going to check the spark plugs when i next have time, sand paper and check the distance. Anything else i could look for? Re: FZS 600 not starting - noggythenog - 10-09-13 Leave all lights etc off Make sure battery has good charge Turn key & wait until the little ticking noises stop as this is the fuel pump supplying carbs. Put choke maybe 2/3 way on (it is still quite mild) Press button, if no start, try with very slight throttle. Once started then straight away slowly reduce throttle to zero over about 7 seconds. Works for me anyway ![]() Re: FZS 600 not starting - thunderpantz - 10-09-13 I've tried it like that too, just seems to 'cough' though :rolleyes Re: FZS 600 not starting - fazersharp - 10-09-13 I had issues like this that got worse and worse over weeks untill ended up with a flat battery on a stubborn no start, turned out it was just old spark plugs after 15K Re: FZS 600 not starting - darrsi - 11-09-13 Iridium plugs are given a 50k-80k+ lifespan by NGK, and they're only about £2 each dearer on Flebay than standard ones, they're worth every penny. Re: FZS 600 not starting - thunderpantz - 11-09-13 Ordered some replacement plugs last night to see if that solves the issue. Should be here tomorrow ![]() Re: FZS 600 not starting - darrsi - 11-09-13 (11-09-13, 07:24 AM)thunderpantz link Wrote: Ordered some replacement plugs last night to see if that solves the issue. Should be here tomorrow In the meantime clean and brush up the ends of your plugs and gap them to 0.75mm and see if it helps at all. I don't honestly think plugs are your problem, but a new set never hurts anyway. Re: FZS 600 not starting - unfazed - 11-09-13 Try draining the carburettors, could be water in there. It is very common especially on bikes used in all weather and ungaraged and can cause the problem you describe. If that solves the problem then change the fuel filter as it can hold water. Then remove the tank and drain it completely to get rid of any water in there. Re: FZS 600 not starting - Dead Eye - 11-09-13 I've had issues with both of mine getting them started. I usually have to just crack open the throttle then thumb the starter - its usually 1 or 2 seconds of decent idle then it bogs down and I have to hold the throttle open gently until it picks up and the revs rise. Once that happens (takes like 10-20 seconds) then its usually ok to just let it idle and finish putting my gear on ![]() Re: FZS 600 not starting - Paul - 11-09-13 If having done all of the above, and you've still got a problem, it may beneficial to check that the jets aren't blocked and needle valves are sealing properly in the carbs. I've got two fazers, one that's run regularly and one that isn't. The one that's run regularly has never given me a problem..... not so the one that isn't I've had two plugs fail (basically they worked perfectly when the bike was last run and then two years or so later when it was started again one simply didn't work..... this has happened twice) , and I had to clean out the jets in the carbs and stop a needle valve sticking open. And the bike has only done 700 miles from new. My experience is they don't like being stood for a long period of time. Needless to say, if your bike is run regularly this may not apply. Re: FZS 600 not starting - fazersharp - 11-09-13 When I had my problem I cleaned and checked the gap and still didnt want to know ------put new sparks in and it fired up instantly Re: FZS 600 not starting - darrsi - 11-09-13 May be worth investing in "STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner", it worked wonders on my bike. Use half a bottle per full tank of fuel, the bike felt much better from the 2nd day of using it. Re: FZS 600 not starting - thunderpantz - 12-09-13 Plugs changed and......... It started on the button! Get in ![]() Re: FZS 600 not starting - mickvp - 12-09-13 nice one! always nice when the first "fix"you try sorts your problem.
