Brake Pads & disc wear. - 69oldskool - 21-08-13

Plenty of brake pads posts on forum however...

Long term/high mileage owners please, any recommendations/avoidances for Pads based on low disc wear?

About to replace pads.
24k on bike, front pads still originals, happy with way they work & no real signs of disc wear.Shame OEM a bit pricey.
Rear pads also worn originals but only cos i swapped the caliper out.~ had new ebc organics on when bought bike,& who knows what before that or what the P.O. did with rear brake~ rear discs got a lip to rival Mick Jagger, so up for replacement in due course, may hold off on rear pads till then.
What'ya all think?
I'm not hard on brakes,(slow rider Wink ) would rather be replacing pads a bit more often than forking out for new discs.

Ferodo for me!

Re: Brake Pads & disc wear. - Frosties - 22-08-13

If you're an easy going rider then I'd say stick with organic compound pads rather than sintered - this will improve the life of your disc but with maybe an extra pad change as you stated.

As said, Ferodo discs are good and not that expensive - better than OEM.

Haven't tried the discs yet, was saying Ferodo pads are the best I've ever had!

Galfer pads have way surpassed expectations for me on the front.

I've just bought a set of Gold fren S33 pads for the front off eBay , £12.75 a pair. Hoping theyre not gonna wear my discs to quickly. Gonna fit them this weekend, I'll let you know what they're like.

Thanks for replies folks,
maybe dusty organics for me then.

Punkstig, Are your ferrodos sintered or organic flavoured?

Re: Brake Pads & disc wear. - redthunder - 22-08-13

I was recommended EBC HH sintered pads all round for mine by a mechanic yesterday. A highly recommended mechanic too, but its the first time I used him. He told me he used to use brembo pads on his own bike but changed them to EBC HH as they performed better. So take from that what you will. I went out and bought two sets for the front today  :lol

Re: Brake Pads & disc wear. - freeware - 22-08-13

I'm on SBS Ceramic for front. Done 2k miles and rotors look fine yet Smile

Re: Brake Pads & disc wear. - nick crisp - 22-08-13

Sintered pads will definitely give greater disc wear. But I like em on the front. Standards on the rear. I would agree that going by what you said about how you ride, standard or organic compounds would probably be the best way for you to go, and cheaper too.

Might as well put some cardboard against the discs to be honest mate!

Re: Brake Pads & disc wear. - Fuzzy - 23-08-13

SBS sintered up front and ceramic at the back for me.
