Re: For sale - 98- 02 Carb rubbers - noggythenog - 05-07-14

Hey pal

Im in the process of stripping my 600 now and it shouldnt be too long before i start cleaning, sorting and distributing.

I haven't taken the carb to engine rubbers off yet but they are in excellent condition........they arent the originals either as i got a receipt from the previous owner for brand new ones.

Anyhow if you're interested ill send you oics when they are off to confirm.

Like a good supermarket i will price match this offer of £45 delivered.

Let me know

Fras

Edit.......cancel all that.......i have mushed the last bolt head on the last rubber......bollocks......i thought everything was going a bit too well. Sad ..........so close...very infuriating......i need it out or the engine is useless.

If i have to use all my profits on getting that bolt out then i will do just for the foc of it.........it shall not beat me......plus i will learn something else plus ill get new tool.

When the engine comes out ill get a better chance of drilling it and using an extractor set......it just wont be any time soon thats all.....but it is a time to learn new skills for sure......or completely foc it up....but id rather practice on this old engine than on a new steed.

Re: For sale - 98- 02 Carb rubbers - unfazed - 05-07-14

Hammer a T30 or T40 Torx bit into it and use the impact screwdriver with the right adapter to fit the Torx bit

That's quite cheap..& ...id like to have them for the future......69oldschool has given me some info too about drill bits but any more would be great...plus i think I'm getting confused between the 2 different techniques....in basic terms i see it that i have to bash bang centre with a punch to get a start hole...then i hammer one of these bad boys above a couple of times on that punch hole and then attach a ratchet and twist it out.........or i go down the drilling with different sized drill bits technique.....am i close to the mark there or totally off my rocker? :rolleyes

Re: For sale - 98- 02 Carb rubbers - unfazed - 05-07-14

Is it sheared or has the allen key twisted in the top of the bolt and rounded off the allen key edges?

If it is rounded off where the allen key fits then take a T30 or T40 size Torx and hammer it in where the allen key should fit then use and impact driver to loosen it

If it sheared punch mark the centre good and deep and use a left hand drill bit to drill into it slowly (using a variable speed drill with reverse on it and the heat will break the and and the left hand drill bit will spin it out. Start with a small bit 3.5mm  and work up. there is less chance of breaking the bit if running slowly

Cheers unfazed

It has just rounded off......well it is majorly round now........i tried various different bits bit it just made it more round and i couldnt quite squeeze in the next size up allen key.......but i couldnt get a good angle or a good enough swing with the hammer as the air box kept getting in the way.

Ill soon have the engine out and then i can get a proper look at it but it is good to know that it is perfectly possible even if to me it will be a bit of a mission......i look forward to it.

The 2 with the clips facing downwards are the middle 2.
