Hi from Cornwall with a couple of questions. - AN GOF - 11-08-13

Wazzzon, Just got myself a 2003 fazer 600 with 15k on the clock, fsh, 2 owners. Chuffed to bits with it after riding around on my faithful old XJ600N for the past 8 years.
Couple of quick questions. Id like to fit a double bubble screen to it ( after next pay day  :rolleyes ), was thinking of the powerbronze jobby. How easy is it to fit these ? I take it you have to remove the fairing to get at the bottom plastic nuts holding the original screen on.
Also ive set the rear shock preload at 4 ( it was set at 9 when i got it), Im a mere 10 stone, does that sound about right ?

Looking forward to learning a lot from this site and joining in with all the banter.

Will post some piccys of my new bike soon  8)

Goffy.

Hey gof, welcome in.

Glad you like the  :faz ,excellent machine & cheap to run & lots of help here if it isnt running.

Not sure about your shock as im close to 16 stone but trial & error will sort it out.

I went up to max but i was getting bounced off the seat & for some reason i felt that the front end was going too light on acceleration, i would say start at half way & tbh i think 4 sounds about right, the shock will be passed its best anyway at 15k, ill eventually be getting an upgrade but still got stainless downpipes to get before too long so the shock will need to wait.

I dont have a double bubble screen but i did take off my original to replace the allen bolts, all i did was unscrew the allen bolts running round the edge of the screen.

Cheers

Fras

Cheers Fras, hopefully fitting the screen is just a case of undoing the screws and not having to mess around taking stuff off  8)

Yep that's right. You just undo the bolts and swap over. No need to remove any fairing bits or instruments.
Sounds like nice low mileage. What colour you got ? Watch out for the rear suspension and downpipes. The originals both tend to go at about 20-30K

Re: Hi from Cornwall with a couple of questions. - AN GOF - 12-08-13

Its in a rather fetching blue, bit of a change for me as i like to matt black my bikes due to the sea air turning everything to rust. I did some research before i got it so checked the downpipes and the shock before i parted with the cash. Its had an easy life and has been garage kept all its life. Paid £1750 which i think is a bargain.

Sounds like a very good buy. Mine's on 39k but still looking and performing well.
PS had another look this morning and you will probably need to take out the black fairing infills to get at the bottom screw bolts. But that's easy, just unscrew and lift them out

Re: Hi from Cornwall with a couple of questions. - AN GOF - 12-08-13

Cheers for that  8)

Re: Hi from Cornwall with a couple of questions. - unfazed - 13-08-13

Welcom Goffy.
As stated just undo the bolts with a good fitting screw drivere, but be careful not to overtighten as you could crack the screen.
Rear shock adjustment is trial and error. Might be closer to 6 for 10stone.
Adjust it, ride it, stop adjust it ride it as often as necessery is the best method.
