Optiglanz - word of caution - darrsi - 05-08-13 I put my old stubby exhaust can back on the bike on Friday and as it looked a bit grubby i gave it a quick wipe over with Optiglanz to give it a bit of a shine up. What i didn't realise until this morning is that it has totally taken off the lasered BSAU markings on the exhaust. Don't get me wrong, the stuff is shit hot at cleaning downpipes, but i wasn't expecting that to happen at all, not that i'd even considered it though! ![]() Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - Dead Eye - 05-08-13 How were your markings added to the can? Mine are stamped in to the metal work so I'd be surprised (and concerned) if it managed to eat through enough metal to remove them Not entirely sure of the process of "lasering" in the markings Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - darrsi - 05-08-13 Yeah they can be lasered on the metal surface. I only gave it a quick wipe, i didn't think nothing of it! I carry paperwork to say it's a legal can anyway in case plod get a bit busy. I've declared it on my insurance as well. ![]() Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - darrsi - 05-08-13 (05-08-13, 12:14 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: Just borrow some stamps and punch it back on I don't really wanna make a bodge of it, you start whacking dents in the exhaust and get it wrong and it'll look bloody horrible. The paperwork should be enough, and i'm leaving the baffle in because it sounds a bit lively so it shouldn't cause too much concern. Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - Strifae - 05-08-13 To be honest, if the police are even bothered usually when they see a Baffle in, they presume its road legal anyway. Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - mickvp - 05-08-13 not surprised it removed the etching. Optiglanz is based on phosphoric acid - its a very harsh cleaning agent (but it does work ![]() Re: Optiglanz - word of caution - darrsi - 05-08-13 (05-08-13, 04:11 PM)mickvp link Wrote: not surprised it removed the etching. I feel like i just rode through a water ride at a theme park. That was some proper savage rain! |
