Swing arm removal advice - bellycgb - 01-08-13 I need to remove the swingarm, the haynes manual is saying you need to remove the rear suspension :eek i didnt think that was necessary? can anyone point me an idiots guide or explain how to do it? many thanks Re: Swing arm removal advice - darrsi - 01-08-13 http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,72.msg236.html#msg236 Re: Swing arm removal advice - bellycgb - 01-08-13 Cheers darrsi was on the mobile its a git to navigate the web on it lol Re: Swing arm removal advice - Dead Eye - 01-08-13 You only need to remove the lower linkage from the rear shock, its not hard to do at all and only requires a socket set. It's much more difficult getting the main swingarm bolt out. I went through every size of socket I had and ended up buying one which still didn't fit - it seems to be a really awkward size / fit From what I can tell, it should be 23mm? People can feel free to correct me on that - but the 23mm socket I bought ended up having an external diameter too large to fit in to the recess. I ended up giving up on the pursuit so can't offer much more advice Re: Swing arm removal advice - Skippernick - 02-08-13 In the guide it says this process destroys the pivot arm bearings, you can't do this process just to regrease everything then? Re: Swing arm removal advice - reillypadraig - 02-08-13 I went to remove my pivot bar and after 2-3 turn it started to get seriously tight so I said to f€&k with that and tightened it back in, no point causing another problem. Not sure if it does destroy the bearings Re: Swing arm removal advice - Foxwood - 02-08-13 I took it off with the help of a standard Bahco -tool set, cleaned + greased everything and put it back on. Haven't had any problems since (done almost 3000 km). :rolleyes Re: Swing arm removal advice - Fazerider - 03-08-13 (02-08-13, 12:01 AM)Skippernick link Wrote: In the guide it says this process destroys the pivot arm bearings, you can't do this process just to regrease everything then? The sleeve slides out without damaging the bearings (provided you take care not to introduce grit) so you can regrease them easily enough. The bearings are a tight fit in the swing arm and get wrecked if you have to drift them out, but you'd normally only be doing that if they're knackered anyway. Re: Swing arm removal advice - Skippernick - 03-08-13 Ok thanks fazerider. Re: Swing arm removal advice - Daved and Confused - 05-08-13 Can't remember the sizes at the moment but my sockets are Britool and they fit fine in the frame recess and obviously onto the nut and pivot shaft. |
