Jeez Hot out there - Bornagain again - 06-07-13

140 miles of back-roads in Beds and Northants.
I think my tyres are melting, I know I am.  Smile

What are those funny red and white trees with numbers like 40 etc that seem to be growing wild alongside some of my old fav roads.  Made me review my policy on speeding  :evil

Re: Jeez Hot out there - jon - 06-07-13

Yup, just spent the afternoon blatting about the backroads and dirt tracks on my crosser, pulled up in town covered in dust to get a drink and the heat hit me like a wall when I got off the bike!

Re: Jeez Hot out there - stevierst - 06-07-13

I was up in the lakes this afternoon on the Fz1, luckily Hardknott pass had a nice cool breeze blowing through it!Big Grin

That's a scary little zig-zag going up there Stevie - looks deceptively easy before you start up it, but then you realise how tight it is...guess if you're local you get used to it?

Re: Jeez Hot out there - stevierst - 06-07-13

I was born up in Cumbria, but brought up near Blackpool Nick, so not too far away. I've ridden the hardknott about 1/2 dozen times and it still thrills me as one of the most complicated and dangerous 'slow' roads I've ever ridden country wide! :o

Re: Jeez Hot out there - nick crisp - 06-07-13

Tell me about it. When I rode it, I was just praying a car didn't come the other way. Got down the other side and there's an XJR parked over in a layby bit. Turns out he'd dropped it (Mrs on the back); No real harm done, but had broken off a pillion footpeg. I wouldn't have fancied doing it two-up.

Re: Jeez Hot out there - Loz - 06-07-13

We got out early and took a ride to Cheddar Gorge, now that's twisty!! Came across a biker down on the way, we didn't stop there were plenty of people around him, just hope he was ok Sad , temperature seemed fine till about 1 ish on the way home, by the time we got back I felt well and truly basted  :rolleyes , off to west bay early in the morning  :lol

I love living in Dorset just wish the rest of the world didn't want to be here too  :eek

Re: Jeez Hot out there - nick crisp - 06-07-13

Yep, it's tourist time again. Slow caravans, long tailbacks, steaming heat. I usually try to get late evening rides in at this time of year when the roads are generally quieter. Will do this when I'm in Wales next week too - the light is better for photographs in the hills in the evenings, and temperatures a bit cooler. Haven't explored the Cheddar region - another one on the list - what particular roads/routes?

Cheddar - Just gotta get there.  Biking mecca.  Big Grin

Lucky sods, I have 12 hour shifts to do Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Jeez Hot out there - Motorbreath - 07-07-13

You Brits are unbeliveable. It's raining all the time there and you still ride a lot. One slightly warm sunny day and you complain  :eek . Come to Spain to enjoy a real sunstroke!

Re: Jeez Hot out there - stevierst - 07-07-13

If you really don't ride in the rain, then really you don't ride TongueTongueBig GrinBig Grin

Re: Jeez Hot out there - Motorbreath - 07-07-13

I do, I do... when it is a must... :rolleyes

Re: Jeez Hot out there - ChristoT - 07-07-13

No complaints here! It's much cooler in full leathers at 70 than it is in T-shirt and shorts in the garden! On your bikes, fellas!!  :lol :lol

Re: Jeez Hot out there - esetest - 07-07-13

If your near Cheddar , check out the road between the A38 at Churchill and the A37 at Chelvey Bridge , very twisty, great views of Blagdon and Chew valley lakes and a good pub called the Ring O Bells , best time in the evenings after 8pm as a lot of commuters use this as a rat run between Bath and Weston Super Mare

Me and the Mrs had 2weeks in Ulpha, Eskdale. Alas we were in her Golf and not the bike but I did the Hardknott and Wrynose several times and revelled in her squinnying and screaming. Absolutely amazing. We did Hartside  which great except the cafe had just shut. Must try to get up there on my bike.
