Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - goffboy - 26-06-13 Hi guys & girls, I've never MOT'd a bike in NI - they have test centres, not garages here. What sort of things do they test for apart from lights, tyres & emissions? Due to go through in a fortnight and I think everything's in order. But ye never know :eek Cheers, Eamonn Re: Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - flesh - 26-06-13 Don't know exactly what is tested but recently bought a car from NI and was advised that the test was much more intensive than the mainland one. Some details on the test can be found on this link although it does not give anything specific to motorcycles: http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/vehicletesting/home.asp Re: Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - garyb - 26-06-13 No test for bikes in Southern Ireland yet, but me thinks it won't be long with those flipping Eurocrats Re: Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - Bitfik - 26-06-13 Nothing to worry about m8. Lights (adjustment on headlight same as car, with the meter thng) brakes, but not on a roller. He will jiggle your forks to make sure there is no play, check wheel bearings I assume. He will have a look at your chain and sprocket. I told a mate that he was looking at something around the rear but I didn't know what..... "He was looking at your chicken line" humph The guy was dead on, and a biker himself. We had a decent chat while he was dong it, which has never happened on a car test. Incidentally another m8 failed for his back tyre and back brake. He kinda knew he would, just didn't have time to replace after the NW200 weekend. Claims they were ok before that.... I don't know. The point being that, same as cars, they only look at those parts on the retest. Dead easy to get a date online quick, so just bung it in and see how it goes. Re: Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - goffboy - 04-07-13 Cheers guys, especially Bitfik 8) Re: Bike MOT - Northern Ireland - Bitfik - 05-07-13 I'm hoping that means it passed? Let us know how you got on please ![]() |
