Do I need a power commander & FCE problem? - silo - 25-06-13 i am just getting the FZ1N sorted out. Brilliant bikes, and the third FZ I have owned - two gen 1's previously. Pilot road 3's, new brake fluid & AA pads, have fitted a road legal fuel exaust and K&N filter as the standard filter was manky and I am not a big fan of paper filters. Have not messed with the air box in any way. Do I need a power commanded to stop the fuelling running too weak, or will the standard system cope ok? I do not rev the diddies off the bike - Usually keep revs between 5 - 8k on the bendy bits, and am not into high speeds as I have been done for doing three figures in previous years! Fitted an Ivan's FCE but the ECU light came on. I am a qualified electrical assembler so no, it was not fitted incorrectly, or poorly crimped. I used the Ivan crimps I fitted to put back to standard and everything was OK. Any ideas why the light came on? the bike started and revved up ok, and the tickover dropped when it was connected. Have read something about starting it with the side stand up etc but what has the sidestand circuit got to do with the fuelling circuit? (nothing i would think!) Any useful advice would be gratefully accepted. useful ideas about improving ground clearance would also be good as I am destroying the footpegs at a rapid rate, even with the shock set to a highish preload. Re: Do I need a power commander & FCE problem? - Strifae - 25-06-13 I have no idea about the FCE unfortunately However if you haven't tinkered with the Airbox in any way or removed the Cat Converter - Just an End Can and a K&N in the standard airbox doesn't mean you will need a Power Commander or that the bike will run lean (the back pressure due to the Cat is still pretty much the same, and also the airbox is quite restrictive regardless of the air filter) So with what you have done you will be fine ![]() Re: Do I need a power commander & FCE problem? - stevierst - 25-06-13 Hi Silo, and welcome to the Foc-ers! Probably best if you go and introduce yourself on the newbies page too ![]() Your bike 'should' be ok with the can and K&N, but she will be running a little on the lean side I would have thought. I've only just started modding mine, and the difference can be dramatic depending on what you do. I'm currently running MIVV end can, BMC filter, Cut airbox, Trimmed flies, and Two brothers Juicebox pro with a custom map. It's transformed the bikes power delivery, and boosted the midrange 3-9k to pretty much gen 1 standard, but still keeping the top end lunacy. Just got to add a 16t front sprocket, and I'm done with the power side. Just got the handling to do like yourself. (rear jack up kit and R1 shock?) Scraping your pegs all the time too? Well I think you've pretty much hit the limit there! I've never touched a peg down, and I'm on the edge of the tyre! As for the FCE, well I've never used one, and it's something ive adapted my riding to, so it's a bit unnecessry in my eyes. It just seems to be causing you some problems, so I'd say take the bugger off! If you have a look on FZ1-forum.com I'm sure they will have a better idea, lots of them use the FCE. Re: Do I need a power commander & FCE problem? - slimwilly - 25-06-13 It's al l guess work but there seems to be lots agreeing that there will be no problem with running issues with just a can and filter mod, mine came with a blue flame can on and it seemed fine, except for a flat spot just under 3000 revs. I used the power commander with a different fuelling map to correct that.I also hated the overrun bangs from the exaust so i blocked the ais inlet in the air box. |
