Front Sprocket nut question - Dcock - 21-06-13

Hi, so I was reading the thread about the front sprocket nut issue that has affected so many people. I decided to go check mine to see if it was the old or new style. Turns out its the 9mm old style nut. Has anyone recently been to a dealer to get them to change it, are they still doing this for free? And if I go in and they play it down saying it's not a know issue or some bull shit like that.. is there anything I can say? Cheers, Dan.

I got mine done for free a few months ago. If not done, call up your local dealership, tell them. If they are awkward, ask for Yamaha UK's number. Confirm with them there is a fault, then call the dealer again. Worked for me!  Smile

OR if your mechanically adept-------simply order Yamaha part number: 90891-10124 @ the grand cost of £2-44. (This is the 12mm nut & lockwasher) and DIY :lol Job done Sorted!

I was gonna say this, went and bought them off local yam dealer a few weeks ago, I've not even checked if its the new or old nut currently on the bike but for £2.44 who cares, its in my pocket ready to change when I can be arsed to have a look!

I believe the new nut has a new torque setting of about 90Nm instead of 70Nm on the old nut, but i settled for 80Nm as it's obviously a bit iffy down there and i didn't wanna push my luck.

Re: Front Sprocket nut question - Andy FZS - 22-06-13

I contacted dealers and yamaha about a year ago neither knew anything. I just bought the nut and washer for <£10 and fitted it myself. I think I torqued mine to about 80Nm to edge my bets. I figured for the cost and effort it was easier to just do it myself. Maybe that's what they rely on.

I'll quote the service number when I go in, hopefully they can't ignore that!

Re: Front Sprocket nut question - Dave48 - 23-06-13

Punkstig-I bought the 12mm kit without checking whether "Rhondda Red" had been done-its the Yamaha bargain price if ever there was one. I will get round to checking soon if it needs replacing. Agree with 80nm torque figure-90 might be pushing it!AndyFZs-how come you paid more than £2-44?
