plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Enceladus - 20-06-13 having a good look round my bike on tuesday evening it looks like the plastic bits that go from the carbs to the engine have been cracked and glued up. bike seems to run ok but should i be replacing these ? if so, what are they called and how much? thanks Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - red98 - 20-06-13 (20-06-13, 12:33 PM)Enceladus link Wrote: having a good look round my bike on tuesday evening it looks like the plastic bits that go from the carbs to the engine have been cracked and glued up. "inlet manifold"......thats what i call them ![]() Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Fazerider - 20-06-13 I'd save the money for something more worthwhile... like petrol. The cracks in mine had been getting worse for years, but each time I had the carbs off and checked the rubbers the cracks were nowhere near full depth. Earlier this year I decided they must have finally penetrated all the way through, water placed on the cracks looked as if it was getting pulled and pushed by the pressure fluctuations. So I bought some replacements... when I got round to taking the carbs off I found the interior of the rubbers was still flawless. I guess the water test was just detecting engine vibrations. If you really want to change them for cosmetic reasons then it's only the outer two that normally exhibit cracks so you could go halves on a set with someone in the same situation. Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Punkstig - 20-06-13 Yeah, these are really quite thick and cracks aren't an issue. Whilst the engines ticking over spray wd40 over them if the engine noise/revs change noticeably then they're cracked all the way through, if there's no change to engine noise then don't worry about it! Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - JZS 600 - 20-06-13 I wonder if you could fill the cracks with silicone sealer Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Punkstig - 20-06-13 But then you're risking the sealer product being sucked into the engine! Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - JZS 600 - 21-06-13 Only if they are cracked right through and you don't let it cure! :lol Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Kentish - 22-06-13 Are the carbs easy to remove then? There's nothing very challenging about taking them out, it's just a chore with all the things that have to be disconnected or moved out of the way. Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - Kentish - 22-06-13 If it were my bike honestly then if replace them if the rest of the bike is mint. If its just a workhorse and they ain't cracked right though if leave them Re: plastic bits from the carbs to the engine cracked & glued. need replacing ? - otis - 22-06-13 As said before, common problem and they are usually only surface cracks. Mine have been like that for 2 years with no issues. If not fussed how they look, don't bother ![]() |
