My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 19-06-13 I noticed my rev counter dropped to 0 when I was revving hard in 4 or 5 gear. the bike revs and runs smoothly despite the rev counter issue then the counter works as normal after a few seconds. any ideas? Not sure if its tps related, I've read through the recent treads about tps issues but I've not been able to find out anything about it. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - unfazed - 20-06-13 What is it at before and after it drops to 0? 3000 is TPS 4000 is Speed sensor Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 20-06-13 It happened at 6000 rpm drops to 0 for a few seconds. I keep rolling on the throttle and when the rev counter decided to do its job again it was working as it should. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 20-06-13 Update happened again today a couple of times. Its actually 5000 rpm when the rev counter drops. This happens when I'm fully on the throttle. Might be due to speed and the air hitting the Speedo drive cable but the rev counter will start working again and jump up to 10000 or 11000. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - darrsi - 20-06-13 Have you actually done the TPS check? Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 20-06-13 I don't get any tps fault codes when I turn the ignition. The bike can be abit difficult to start unless I give it abit of throttle. not sure if that's related. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - darrsi - 20-06-13 Do the check anyway, and see what it does: Turn the ignition on (no need to start it), Unplug the TPS, you may need a flat screwdriver to unhook it, i just used a key, it should go to 3000 then 0, then 3000, etc, indicating that it's either unplugged or knackered. Then plug it back in and it should go straight to 5000 If it goes to either 0 or 10,000 then it needs adjusting Mine was a bit random at first, bouncing between normal revs, then 0, then 3000 as i was riding it. Then when i did the check it went to 10,000 which was all a bit confusing, but i've just adjusted mine back to 5000 and hopefully it should be fine now. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 27-06-13 Found out what the problem is. The male connector to the tps has cracked. Its still making contact but the plastic cover obviously gets pulled by the air under hard acceleration and makes a poor connection. not sure if I need to buy a new tps cable or if I can get a plastic welder to fix it. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Andy Smith FZS - 27-06-13 I was thinking araldite for a quick cheap fix. Anyone had similar issues? Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - darrsi - 27-06-13 Bloody TPS again :rolleyes I'd be inclined to glue it and wrap self amalgamating tape around it if you're not gonna replace it. That'll hold it firmly together, and will weather proof it as well. Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Wallen - 04-07-13 I am having the same issue with my bike at the moment, going along when accelerating the rev count will go to 0 then sit around the 4000rpm mark and the speedo is also playing up. Being new to motorbiking and not knowing too much about electrics what does TPS mean? Will Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Dead Eye - 04-07-13 TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor If the tacho is reading 4k then it is alerting you that the speedo drive has become disconnected / stopped working. Had this on mine 90% of the time the lugs have snapped on the drive - you can try to glue them back on or a new one is only about £15 If you are unlucky like me, then the actual speedo drive has died and you will need a replacement which is £100+ - best option here is to find someone breaking a Fazer and see if they have the part. I did this and got one for £25 Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Wallen - 04-07-13 Ah i see, snapped lugs as in the ones on the front wheel speed sensor? Ive had it out and it looks fine so put it back...was a nightmare trying to get it back together. With the speedo not working and the rev count fluctuating the head unit 20 amp fuse is getting very hot and melting...I have got some fine wet and dry sandpaper and electrical cleaner and plan to clean the fuse slots tonight which....hopefully will solve the problem!! Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - Dead Eye - 04-07-13 Yeah that's the ones. If the lugs are fine then I would say the sensor has died (like mine). However, you are having other electrical issues so I'd attempt to sort that out first before forking out on the speedo - it could be related (maybe) Re: My rev counter issue - 6000rpm - darrsi - 04-07-13 (04-07-13, 10:19 AM)Wallen link Wrote: Ah i see, snapped lugs as in the ones on the front wheel speed sensor? It might have looked fine when you had it apart, but did you definitely put it back together properly if you're saying it was a bit of a nightmare? If the lugs aren't lined up properly they'll just snap when you tighten the wheel nut up! |
