Exhaust stud removal - elbrownos - 08-06-13 I've got my exhaust off at the moment Fortunately no problems at all getting it off. Some of the studs are a little rusty but nothing serious. New Motad exhaust fits perfectly. I've got some stainless studs to replace the originals with so I don't have to worry about studs snapping in future. Unfortunately can't get the originals out! Using the two nut trick, the nuts just slip no matter how tight I do them up. But I get the feeling it's mangling either the nuts or the studs so I don't want to push it in case I mangle the studs and can't get them out. Any tips? Re: Exhaust stud removal - Dead Eye - 08-06-13 I found that method almost impossible to use. Not sure if you have enough room, but I used a stud extractor that tightens on to the stud then used an impact driver to remove them ![]() Stud Extractor - You want the 1/4" one but its hard to find it by itself. The studs are 6mm and the 3/8" one isn't quite small enough to get a very good grip http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-4393-Impact-Stud-Extractor/dp/B001DYRDU2/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1370723961&sr=8-9&keywords=stud+extractor Impact Driver http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&productId=530655&catalogId=10151 Re: Exhaust stud removal - Skippernick - 08-06-13 Or leave them in and librally apply copper slip, problem solved. ![]() |
