Rev counter issues.... - JoolsGrant - 07-06-13 Hi, new member to the forum here, hoping someone may be able to offer me some advice regarding a problem I'm having with my rev-counter. the unit keeps cutting out, needle drops back down to zero revs, then flicks up to 3000 revs, runs as it should for a few seconds, then cuts out again. Keeps doing this constantly (also seems to affect the fuel gauge too, but none of the other instruments). Apologies if this subject has already been dealt with on the forum, I did have a look through to see if anyone had asked about similar problems but drew a blank, any help or advice on this matter would be gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance for any help you folks may be able to offer. Jools Re: Rev counter issues.... - His Dudeness - 07-06-13 The Fazers use the rev counter as a diagnostic tool so it could be the bike telling you there's a problem. Check out the service manual in the download section to see what 3000RPM indicates. Re: Rev counter issues.... - unfazed - 07-06-13 The Rev counter code 3000 is a problem with the TPS. It is either disconnected, has a broken wire or possibly a short circuit in the wiring. Re: Rev counter issues.... - Dead Eye - 08-06-13 Just in case you can't find the manual; ![]() Re: Rev counter issues.... - JoolsGrant - 08-06-13 Thanks gents, checked it out this morning and found the connector block for the TPS wiring had worked loose, all sorted now, thanks for your help. Re: Rev counter issues.... - Andy Smith FZS - 17-06-13 I've got a rev counter problem aswell, it happens at 6000rpm n drops to 0 on the counter very quickly. Bikes running good so I'm guessing its just a loose connection. Re: Rev counter issues.... - elbrownos - 17-06-13 Out of interest, does anybody know what the TPS actually does on a bike with no ECU? Re: Rev counter issues.... - unfazed - 17-06-13 It advances the ignition timing off idle as you open the throttle. The bike has an a Elctronic Control Unit of sorts under the tail section and under the Toolkit, which Yamaha call the Ignitor, It is a little more than your basic electronic ignition as it also controls the ignition timimg based on engine speed and throttle position base on the TPS info. A faulty or wrongly adjusted TPS can often cause a flat spot around 7000 revs. Re: Rev counter issues.... - elbrownos - 18-06-13 Good to know, thanks for that |
