Wobbly Mirror Cure? - Andy Clap - 03-06-13

The rivet which acts as a hinge for the mirror has become loose (2002 FZS600).  Seems a shame to have to buy a new mirror for this.

Has anybody successfully fixed this?  How about drilling out the (massive) rivet and using a bolt and lock-nut?

Cheers,
Andy

are you talking about the connection of the mirror stem to the mounting bracket (i.e. between the 2 bolts used for mounting)?

I had a similar problem with my RHS mirror - was as tight as I dared to bolt it (had the bolts sheer on me before)

took the whole mirror off and hammered in the middle of the mounting bracket (where the mirror joins the bracket) - this tightens up the mounting and havent had a problem since

Yep, that's the one.

I did try hammering it, but was a bit timid.  I'll try whacking hell out of it!!
Thanks.

Yep did mine when i first got the bike. Took it to bits and carefully tw@tted the rivet until it was tight. Don't be shy, use a decent size hammer!Big Grin

Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!
