10w60 race oil - is it smart? - Slaninar - 26-05-13
I got a chance to get this oil really, really cheap:

It's Efl 10w60 race oil.
Now, I don't ride when it's below 15 degrees celsious, so spring, summer, autumn. Is this oil too thick for Fazer 600? So far I've been using 10w40 and 10w50, but 10w60 isn't listed in the owner's manual at all.
What do you guys think? Will it do any harm?
Can I mix oils and what results will I get say 10w60 and 10w40?

Unfortunately the only part I can answer is the last; if you mix equal amounts of 10w60 with 10w40 you will get 10w50

According to this it will be like putting liquid tarmac in your engine, so i would say a big "NO" to that idea!

I do like Opie Oils and there prices can be fair, but so far I've been looking for cheap and not fair

Somebody told me race oil do not work well after some heating-cooling cycles, just like race tyres. It would lose its properties after you use your bike some times. But I am not sure if its true.

Guess that's it - I'll leave that oil to racers. Motul 7100 10w40 and (when I can find it) Bel Ray Exs 10w50 are what I'll probably stick with.
Bel Ray is still not copied in Serbia, not very popular, so when you buy it, it's original. Not sure if foccers use it, but it's as good as any IMO and can be bought a bit off price in 4 litre canisters:

I'm VERY confused now, i'm standing next to a man who rides a KTM and he's telling me 10w/60 is very thin oil to look at?

Why even question it, if the hand book and Haynes say 10/40 why even think anything but?

Because it is free.
But I won't risk it, informative posts have definitely helped me seal that decision - won't cut cheap on oil... and tyres... and helmet.... and chain... and brake pads, brakes are important.
Seriously, not worth saving if it can later cost you a lot more to repair.
