Instrumentation panel bulb changing - ltcorwin - 24-05-13

Hi all,

RIght I have a 99 boxeye FZS600.  Just noticed that the Fuel guage bulb is out, so it needs changing, figure I might as wll change all 3 whilst I'm in, but this leads me to a few questions:

1) I know the bulbs are 12V 2W, but I'm sure there are more than one type of bulb that meets these electrical specs, can anyone give me any pointers to the right type of 2W bulb before I open the panel up (and thus render the bike non usable to nip to the bike dealers for bulbs) ?

2) Are all 3 bulbs in the instrument panel the same?

As for changing the bulbs, I know from the old Haynes manual that you need to remove the instrumentation panel, now regarding that.

3) Do I need to take the fairing off, or can I get away with just removing the windscreen to get enough access to unbolt the instrument panel?

4) If I can get away with just removing the screen, any hints/tips/warnings?

5) If I do need to remove the full front fairing, any hints/tips/warnings?

Thanks in advance for all the help

This is such an easy thing to do an several of us (including myself) have altered the lights behind the clocks for a better aesthetic feel - the thread for this is here; http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,1719.0.html

But in answer to your questions;

1) 286 T5 SMD LED's

2) There are 4 bulbs, three for backlight and one for the fuel gauge

3) No need to remove the fairing, removing the windscreen does make access better but its still possible even if you don't

4) Read the guide in the above thread

5) Uhh... think I covered this Big Grin

Hope this helps Smile

Thanks Dead Eye,

Excellent thread, looks very useful.

I'll have a look at that later and let you know how I get on.

Dead Eye,

Thanks for your useful guide, I ended up taking the screen off for easier access, and used bulbs not LEDs but it all went smoothly.

Hats off to you sir.

You're more than welcome, I was lucky at the time that my tools allowed me to get access. My subsequent set that I have now didn't so when I did this again a few months ago, I removed the screen as well Smile
