How much oil to put back in? - Fizzy Pies - 22-05-13 Just emptied the oil and removed the filter. How much to put back in? Service manual says: Quantity Periodic oil change 2.5L With oil filter replacement 2.7L Total amount 3.5L wtf?? Re: How much oil to put back in? - Dave48 - 22-05-13 Oil change without filter change 2.5L Oil with filter change 2.7L After total engine strip & rebuild 3.5L Simples :lol Re: How much oil to put back in? - Slaninar - 22-05-13 (22-05-13, 07:18 PM)Dave48 link Wrote: Oil change without filter change 2.5L I believe it's more like 2.9 after filter change? However, still over half a litre of old oil left every time - damn! ![]() Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 22-05-13 Slaninar, if the book says 2.7 and it's been said on here before around 2.7, then why would you say 2.9 ? You're encouraging an overfill, and that ain't helpful is it, even though it's only 200ml? I swear you must shake your bike upside down to empty it? :lol Fizzy Pies, you are safe chucking in 2.5 litres straight away without a problem, then start the bike for 30 seconds and watch the window. The oil will raise then stop, although you may not see any straight away as it's not enough. Then add a little bit of oil and repeat the above steps again, adding a bit at a time until it eventually stops where you want it, between the markings. Slowly top up until it gets to the top level on the sight glass, should be 2.7 but will depend how well you drained it. The true ammount is irrelevant as it would be irresponsible to just bang 2.7 or 2.9 in without periodically checking the level 8) . As in 2.75 litres? Bike on level ground, on centre stand? Just run the engine for 30 seconds, switch off, then watch where the level goes, if it's under the top marker it'll do? Re: How much oil to put back in? - Slaninar - 22-05-13 2.7 is correct. 2.9 is for Thundercat! ![]() Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 22-05-13 As long as you have the oil between the markings then it'll be okay. When i bought my bike it had FOUR litres in it :rolleyes Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 22-05-13 No Activ8 ??? Shocking....... :lol Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 22-05-13 (22-05-13, 10:21 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: [quote author=darrsi link=topic=7949.msg77724#msg77724 date=1369257221] This stuff... http://activ8lubricants.com/testimonials Is just a load of bollocks yes? Much smoother gear changing, it's very noticeable. ![]() Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 23-05-13 Have a read of this, i can't be arsed to fight my corner again. I personally highly recommend it, whereas other people, not one who has actually tried it themselves i might add, say there's no need. Totally up to you, it's your bike so your choice! ![]() Can i just add though, if you're considering it, do it now while you've got fresh oil in the bike, so that you're not pouring it in then taking it out again in the near future. http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6291.0.html Re: How much oil to put back in? - Lawrence - 23-05-13 (22-05-13, 10:21 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: [quote author=darrsi link=topic=7949.msg77724#msg77724 date=1369257221] This stuff... http://activ8lubricants.com/testimonials Is just a load of bollocks yes? Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 23-05-13 @Exupnut, you've tried Activ8 then??? :rolleyes Re: How much oil to put back in? - Exupnut - 23-05-13 Yeah... Tastes fookin 'orible Re: How much oil to put back in? - darrsi - 23-05-13 I'll take that as a "NO" then? It doesn't really matter if you've tried a million other products does it, 'cos those million other products are not this one! Re: How much oil to put back in? - Dead Eye - 23-05-13 I completely ignore the oil capacities in every way other than knowing how much I roughly need to purchase. Its a simple case of just putting oil in until it is within the min - max gauges on any vehicle. For the bike, it may well be 2.7 litres, I haven't paid enough attention to actually check ![]() As for my car, there have been reports on the owners forum of anything between 4.5 to 5.2 (what Haynes says) to 7 litres!! :eek |
