PINBALL WIZARDS - DILLIGAFF - 16-05-13 Following a few comments made in another thread, like Chillum and Pieman, I have always been a great fan of pinball. It started in the 70s when I would play every lunchtime at the HardRock in Piccadilly. We used to play four up and loser bought the beer. I remember staggering out after one session and leaving 28 unopened Becks on the bar !!!??? I also had to play till I got the high score and remember one historic game where I reached the billions and a single game lasted for about 45 minutes in a pub in WC2. Sadly these days it is increasingly difficult to find a pinball machine in a pub and the only one I know of is in the Hole in the Wall pub behind Waterloo station (and that may now be gone) May I suggest a quick post to advise of all the available machines known to members? Any in the South are assured of some trade from Dilligaff. Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - Buzz - 16-05-13 http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml/fac/9/with/Pinball No idea how accurate it is...a quick phonecall should suffice I guess. I could never get the hang of pinball...the ball just had a knack of going straight between the flippers meaning all my games lasted about 3 minutes. I thought they were all rigged like that to get your money but these apocryphal tales of scores in the billions make me think there must actually be some skill to it!! If you go to the Big Red in Holloway then give me a shout and you can show me how it's done... :lol Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - Simon.Pieman - 16-05-13 I just found this http://www.pinformer.co.uk/ Not too many machines listed on it but then not a surprise there isn't many left. I also had a quick Google for machines to buy -£7000 for an Adams Family! I guess my dream of having one at home has just gone out of the window. But my lady would put a hammer through it ater a week anyway, lol. Buzz, yes there is a knack to playing pinball. First of all you have to know the game, know which targets to hit and when. Most of them are 'feature' games, basically you hit a target to light a feature then hit the targets lit by the feature. Light all the features and the game goes into another mode and the game gets harder but scores more points. Most people are rubbish at pinball because they try and hit anything on the table, you have to target the lit features or you'll score peanuts. It's considered acceptable to give machines a gentle shove as needed. The trick is to get to know a machine and how far you can go with shoving it. Some might say this is cheating, but it's fairer to let the machine decide what an illegal shove is -in other words a 'TILT'. I used to play a lot of pinball in my mis-spent youth, but these days there are very few tables around, even in the arcades down on Southsea Sea Front ![]() One of my favourites was called High Speed, one evening on South Parade Pier about 6:30pm I stuck in 50p (for three games!). At 10pm, they kicked me out because they wanted to close and I pointed out that I still had *six* credits in the game, so they gave me a quid back ![]() Now you've reminded me, I may have to download Visual Pinball and revisit some of my old favourites... Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - Punkstig - 16-05-13 http://www.thepipelinebar.co.uk/ I haven't been yet but afaik they have 4 tables including the LE AC/DC which I really want to play. If any Southeners fancy a meet up and a few games I'd be well up for that! I used to own 'Whitewater' which was just awesome, but due to circumstances had to sell on which I still regret, I'm looking at building my own pc one at sone point! Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - chaz - 16-05-13 I used to play in the 60's, think you had to hit targets to spell L U C K which would light a crescent, light 9 and you won a token which you could exchange for 20 cigs, never won. It was 6d a game that's 2.5 p. They swapped it out for 'Twilight Zone' eventually, which was also a great table. Si Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - goldfazer - 16-05-13 Del, Elvira gone from your local then? My mate's mum's got a 'Kings and Queens' (as in Tommy) under a pile of junk in her house. It used to work, and probably still does!! Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - Punkstig - 16-05-13 I got lucky and bought it for £500, just needed cleaning up, they're at least £1500 now which is why I'm contemplating the build my own pc route- I got an old Wurlitzer jukebox off the same guy which I still have, it's a big wooden chest with the insides ripped out, gonna put pc on the inside and 32" on top, only kept it cause the speakers are ridiculously good despite its age, there's hundreds of remade real tables for free so makes sense, although I know it won't be quite as good as a real one! ![]() Re: PINBALL WIZARDS - Simon.Pieman - 16-05-13 (16-05-13, 07:47 PM)goldfazer link Wrote: My mate's mum's got a 'Kings and Queens' (as in Tommy) under a pile of junk in her house.
