Should they stay or should they go now...... - Ash69 - 14-05-13 So dropped into Chorley Yamaha on the way back from Rivington on Sunday (prior to getting soaked), and noticed a couple of shiny black n gold FZ8 Fazers sat in the corner, price reduced from £8K to £6300. So I'm now thinking about possibly trading in my weekend toy: ![]() Plus my trusty S2 ![]() for a nice new shiny 8 plus a few tasty extras ![]() However, and there's always a however, I like the absolute contrast between the sensible (but Foccin fast) Fazer and the raw basic ridiculousness of the Harley, both bikes suit different moods , but I'm starting to feel the twin bike servicing hurt. So what do you guys/gals think good idea, crap idea, FZ8 best thing since sliced bread, or is it pretty average and only reduced because there's a facelift coming, or is it worth looking at an FZ1S and waving my license goodnight. Obviously I haven't sorted out a test ride yet but it's gotta be a worth a play one weekend. Cheers Ian Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - bri h - 14-05-13 Try the fz1s. Its everything anyone needs. Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - Skippernick - 14-05-13 Is it the new FZ8 with uprated suspension etc? That would be a better bike than the first one i believe, but having never ridden one or FZ1 can't really comment. What a dilema, my heart bleeds for you. :b Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - noggythenog - 14-05-13 Although i'd love to say get the FZ8 & im sure it'd be an ace bike i get the feeling that theres a little more to the story here. You've already said that you don't really need 2 bikes & perhaps by getting a third upgraded bike then you wont have been forced into making a choice between the fz6 & the harley as both of them no doubt have some sentimental value. But i think the best idea is to get rid of one of your bikes & keep the other & keep the extra cash hidden away for 6 months until the bike sorrow has passed & then see how you feel then.there are always plenty good deals around & its not like youll be completely bikeless.if you like both the harley & fz6 then i think the fz6 probably offers you as much outright speed as you need without going any bigger than a 600. So what one to get rid of????..........why the harley of course ![]() Well i bet you didnt think youd get fazer counselling :b :b :b , all part of the service. 8) Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - Ash69 - 14-05-13 Ha - No sentimental value, they're bikes not family heirlooms. I only bought the Harley to try and get my (ex)other half out on hers, then found I actually quite liked it. I agree with the 600 being plenty fast enough for me, I enjoy a spirited ride but I'm no track day trickster, in fact that was another reason for the Harley rather than going down the R6 route. The thou may just be too much of a temptation with circa 150 horses on tap rather than the FZ6's 97ish, but the 800 makes for 110 with some simple breathing mods and a new pipe, doesn't rev as high as the FZ6, but I've no idea how that translates to the 'riding experience', it looks a bit bulkier too, but again I've not checked the figures (bet it's still lighter than the Sportster). Think I might just use my indecision to get out and try a few Cheers for the reminder about Sunday, I'd spotted it a few weeks back but wasn't sure where I was going to be, turns out I'm here so might keep an eye on the weather forecast and have a run over. Any idea what time people might be turning up ? Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - simonm - 15-05-13 Stay with what you have imo. You sound contented but slightly 'bored' with your bikes and fed up with the running costs. C'est last vie. No point in change for the sake of change. Get on em and ride and enjoy the moment. Just my 2p, no one can make the decision but you :-) Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - slimwilly - 15-05-13 Chop one in mate, doesn't matter which really, its nice to have something new. I sold my sporty and bought an FZS600, brill, fab etc. 3 years later bought an FZ1n, wow, what a machine BUT I know in my heart I will have another Harley, probably a street bob tho. Won't get rid of the FZ1n tho, tooooooooooo good. Don't know your budget but if you can, sell your 6 and get an FZ1, some very good 2nd hand ones out there with low miles on them, this. God luck Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - BBROWN1664 - 15-05-13 Definitely trade in the S2 for the fz8. As for the tractor, I wouldn't have owned up to having one of them. Bury it somewhere to save the pain. Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - stevierst - 15-05-13 I traded in my red boxeye, and my R1 streetfighter for a compromise bike which I thought was going to be better at everything. I had it for 3 months before I realised I'd made a mistake(I still shed a tear over the R1). And what do I have now? A boxeye and an fz1. Pretty much where I started, and its still love ;D Go for a really long (1/2 day+) test ride on the fz8 before you commit, as both your bikes are currently your compromise, that's why you bought them in the first place! Or if they both still make you smile in their own way, and you've just got itchy feet, buy an exhaust, or different bars to re-kindle that 'new bike' feel again. Just don't do what I did, and make a hasty decision that you'll regret. Don't rush into something you'll regret. Newer isn't always better. Why spend extra cash when the bikes you have serve your needs already. Having said that, if you have itchy feet, make sure you get a decent test ride first on whatever it is you fancy ![]() Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - goldfazer - 15-05-13 Gold and Black is the best, no debate ![]() Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - Lazarus - 16-05-13 (15-05-13, 07:51 PM)goldfazer link Wrote: Gold and Black is the best, no debate i thought everyone agreed that the blue were the best. im sure we had a meeting on it and it was a unanimous decision!!! :| Re: Should they stay or should they go now...... - sure2ride - 17-05-13 Good advice here. I've had a 600 foxeye and 2 Gen 1 Fazer thou's. The 800 is a good compromise, but you have to take a really decent test ride before you decide. Unfortunately there are not too many second hand Fazer 8s around. 6.3 is a good price for new (when they first came out they were 9k) but it will not have adjustable suspension for that price. You will also take a hit when selling if you buy new, but at 6.3K that is pretty good. I reckon if you take a test ride and it puts a grin on your face, sell the other 2 and get the Fazer8. Pity it's not the best colour (White with Gold wheels)...that reminds me, I saw a good buy recently, on MCN I think, black, low mileage and unusually, the owner had bought new gold wheels, it looked really good. Right, off to polish mi wheels now, (and clean the chain having read the other thread :o ) |
