broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 This got a bit lost in street budgies nhs thread so i thought id open a new can of worms. I worked on the intensive care ward at broadmoor hospital as a health care assistant. Yep its a hospital funded by your nhs. The service users as they are known are among the most violent and dangerous murderers, rapists, arsonist and child molesters in the country. Those diagnosed with a mental illness such as schitzophrenia are sectioned under the mental health act and can be treated in a secure unit indeffinately. those diagnosed with a personality dissorder such as psycopaths cannot be treated with drugs and are not sectioned so they can only be locked up for the time they are sentenced too.So the question is should we continue to keep them in relative comfort or reintroduce some kind of death penalty for the "incureable"? Re: broadmoor - Streetbudgie - 09-05-13 Death sentence gets my vote Re: broadmoor - ChristoT - 09-05-13 (09-05-13, 07:12 PM)bri h link Wrote: This got a bit lost in street budgies nhs thread so i thought id open a new can of worms. I'm not against the Death penalty, but in those circs, it sounds a tad like the Aryan mentality from Nazi Germany (where people with mental defects were ALSO sent to forced labour camps). Re: broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 An old navy mtae of mine says why use dumb animals to test stuff on when there are peadophiles? Good one :thumbup Re: broadmoor - Grahamm - 09-05-13 :lurk Re: broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 the problem is realy the nature or nurture thing. were they born bad or are they the way they are because the have been abused themselves. having met some of them i have some sympathy for some and would highly recomend a lethal injection for others. thats a personal view and to be honest there are a few people not in broadmoor that i could recomend for the same treatment Re: broadmoor - dBfazer600 - 09-05-13 No, do not kill some one because they have a mental illness but for the merits a crime I do not have a problem with. There are those with the illness you are implying deserve the death penalty who are contributing to and area decent members of society. It is the knee jerk reactions of individuals who do not understand the complexity of the mind. Instead of using sensationalised language why not try a different approach to educate those who are afraid of this hidden and frowned upon illness. Try this out if you really are interested in the human race: http://www.time-to-change.org.uk/talk-about-mental-health Daz Re: broadmoor - ddtwelve - 09-05-13 take all there bloody comforts away they have more xbox ,ps3 etc than me Re: broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 hi dbfazer, of course you are right mentaly ill people need help as much as a cancer patient. Personality dissorders dont count as a mental illness or so i believe. The people i was refering to are on a purely personl basis as a response to the threats they made to my wife and kids if they ever get out and the various physical and verbal assaults they committed on me personaly. Re: broadmoor - Tiberius Onklevaart - 09-05-13 Don't ye just love these thought experiments? Elsewhere, minds are trying to use the wonders of science and philosophy to gauge the weight of the earth and estimate the possibility of a spiritual connection between humanity and atoms and the nature of the universe and our role in it. Instead we are debating who we should kill and leave to suffer in a life of pain. My question is this.. When did this place ACTUALLY turn into the fucking Jeremy Vine phone in? Theres a fuckin lot of wind expulsion goin on Re: broadmoor - dBfazer600 - 09-05-13 I understand where your coming from bir h as I work in the health industry. Although I just needed to put the other-side in as well. The mental health act is only as good as the professionals who responsible for ensuring that it is used. Is the individual capable of making a sound decision at that moment in time? Hard to answer at times. As there are times where you question if the individual is playing games of deception that includes the relentless outburst of abuse, mental or physical. The general public need to know the difference between some one who needs a little help and not be scared to seek it rather than been scared to come forward that compounds problems due to stigma. If people had this understanding then maybe there would be no need for places such as broadmoor. With saying this there are those who are not nice individuals but is more of a moral misjudgement than a mental health issue. Daz (my one brain cell has been blow) :lol Re: broadmoor - mtread - 09-05-13 Quote:When did this place ACTUALLY turn into the fucking Jeremy Vine phone in?:thumbup You are right, let's stick to the bikes. Many of us on here have very different opinions to those being given, and it will turn into a slanging match :2guns Re: broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 Point taken about the jeremy vine show gents perhaps this is the wrong forum. after all were all bikers so were all lunatics in our own sweet way.. Re: broadmoor - dBfazer600 - 09-05-13 Its a forum that is an area for open discussions and if everything is going to be bikes or me me me then its a boring shit hole that will be frequented by like minded chaves who say jog on while hanging around on a street corner. If you do not want to partake in a thread then don't but please do not assume everyone is going to be the same and unable to communicate without being personal. Who is Jeremy Vine? Daz Re: broadmoor - bri h - 09-05-13 to be fair i did post the thread in the general section and in my tiny mind i was expanding the the debate started by sinomm about the guy on a sports bike without protective clothing (which did degenerate) and was followed by the who would you ban from the nhs thread. But as i say i take the point about the Jeremy vine reference. Re: broadmoor - Streetbudgie - 09-05-13 If its just about bikes then why have a general section? If you don't want to take part then don't. I remember the old days when you could throw as much mud as you liked on the old forum and no one cared. A bike site about just bikes is going to be pretty short lived and infrequently visited. It is neither a punishment nor a deterrent. It is the premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state and is the ultimate denial of human rights. It murders accused people who turn out to be innocent with no comeback. It lowers society to the same level as the guilty. Two wrongs do not make a right. Re: broadmoor - Razgruff - 09-05-13 I'm declaring an interest I suffer from SAD and have been to some dark places in my time, I was on Seroxat for quite a while before the problems with that were fully understood. Very complex subject this, My view is that some are treatable some are not, long term illness, short term mental breakdown (such a a post natal depressed mother who commits infanticide ) There are as many mental illnesses both neurological and psychological has there are bacterial and viral diseases. So I would treat if there is a good chance of recovery, Contain if there is the possibility of the person not taking their medication and therefore becoming a threat again. Execute those that are irredeemable such as Psychopaths. At the end of the day it's about protecting people. Those that suffer from neurological defects don't deserve to die because of there brain chemistry the same for those that have had environmental factors create their illness. The Psychopaths are to be regarded much the same as wolves bears and other dangerous animals were in our past. Killed to protect ourselves and others. No point in locking them up a punishment, they wouldn't understand that just the same as a wolf wouldn't understand it, their nature is their nature. Personally I don't believe in the death penalty except in this case, I much prefer to lock people up forever and make them suffer for their crimes. Re: broadmoor - Tiberius Onklevaart - 09-05-13 I'm all for advocating the open discussion of a variety of topics. Don't just stick to bikes, there's individual forums for them all, woo hoo, fantastic. But you know what, I been here a long time time and rarely, if ever, has it been so fuckin morbid. On one hand we have "let johnny foreigner bleed out, its our health service", and on the other its "lets kill the mentally ill" I haven't singled anyone out, I'm not makin it personal, and in the main, its only words on a screen on the Internet at the end of it all. Its not even real. It ultimately makes no difference. Sling mud, sling away, I'm a rival to any for it, and even the n00bs can see that, but you are discussing the killing of people by action or by proxy then stating that we should killing them for killing people. My, my, how civilised. |
